When people celebrate autumn, it’s nearly always in reference to the beautiful array of leaves. But autumn really has three stages: 1) Notumn (not quite autumn), 2) Hallmark Autumn (the one in the Calendars), and 3) Falltumn, when bare limbs stand out against brooding skies — my wife and I recently visited a little-known nearby woodland called Gilmore Ponds Preserve and reslished the stark beauty of long shadows on fallen leaves, beaver-chewed stumps, and moss-covered sod. Enjoy!

Why, thank you, Jeanne!
Exceptional post , have a wonderful weekend
You too, Jalal.
I like the big old houses with turrets.
I love your 3 phases of autumn – I agree! And your photos are gorgeous! Thank you!
Thank you, Anonymous.
Anonymous was ME! I’m too quick for WordPress!
Aha! Thanks, Joanne, you speed-demon! ;>)
These photos are stunning – especially the nuclear explosion!
Thank you, Annabelle!
Very pretty! We visited Door County this year for Hallmark autumn, the most breathtaking I’ve ever seen. But I bet it’s pretty now, too.
Perfect Mitch. I can’t agree more. Usually Hallmark autumn is like a week or two where we live, with Falltumn lasting most of the season. Falltumn can be gray and a bit brisk, but really is my favorite time of the year. Love the post.
Yes, the three stages of Autumn… really nicely defined by you. Falltumn is my favorite because you can see so much more, into the woods and things… lovely photos.
A great description of autumn plus wonderful photographs. What more can a chap do?
I love the Art Deco library!
I thoroughly enjoyed my trip through Falltumn via your great images. Thanks, Mitch! 🙂
Your word inventing is always fun and creative so I am wondering if reslished is an original as well.
Around New England, we call the time between autumn foliage and snowfall, “stick weather.”
Nice collection of pictures Mitch! I like the pic of the church with the tall steeple.
The picture of the window with the leaves was my fav.
Enjoy the weekend and God bless you and your family.
Autumn presents so many phot opportunities during all 3 phases. What is not to like. With death comes renewal. Have a wonderful weekend. Allan
I experienced the fall/autumn in America only once. Way back in 2001.
Nice!
Oh, gorgeousness!! Thanks for the words—but the pictures!!!!
May I ask a question, please, Mitch. What do you do with these pictures in your Media Library? Do you keep them all there? Or do you delete from library after a few days? And if you delete, does that delete them from your posts?
I’m having a problem with Media File now. Jetpack told me I need to get a media manager plugin to organize my library. Do you have that plugin? Which do you use?
Please help this scaredy cat 🙀 please. Thanks.
And enjoy this glorious season. Xoxo thanks for this glorious post. 🍁🍂🕊️
The Church picture and the others were so beautiful.💐🍀
Perfect description of autumn! Love your pics. 😊
Yes fall is more than about the leaves but being I never see them seasonally change in South Florida, I focus mainly on that phenomenon when I travel. Lots of brown in the pictures I like very much.
Stunning pictures! They perfectly depict the crossover between autumn and winter!
Gorgeous pictures Mitch—I recognize some of the pictures from Wyoming, OH. My mother-in-law grew up in that town, and went to the Presbyterian church. The first house in your arrangement was down the street from her childhood home. Thanks for the memories. 🙂 http://katiesencouragementforyou.home.blog/2020/06/16/a-tribute-to-marilyn/
Great photos, I love autumn!
