I’ve started work on my new novel, Gone Girl on the Train with the Dragon Tattoo. This is a very personal story for me, and I deeply resent any suggestion that it is derivative of other works. Next they’ll be saying that my autobiography, The Diary of Anne Frank, Part Two, lacks authenticity!

Oxford Dictionary: o·rig·i·nal·i·ty [əˌrijəˈnalədē]
-
Noun: the ability to think independently and creatively:
E.g. “A writer of great originality”
“Sometimes I worry about being a success in a mediocre world.” ~Lily Tomlin
“It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.” ~Herman Melville
“Mistakes are the only universal form of originality.” ~Mason Cooley
(Hence, the key to success is making original mistakes.)
“If you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.” ~C. S. Lewis
“Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.” ~Oscar Wilde

This is so weird!! Just yesterday, my siblings and I were joking (after I had spent a good half hour paging through the recent NYT Bestseller list) that someone should write a spoof called something like “Gone Guy on the Monorail with the Lizard Upper Back Tattoo”…
Congratulations on your upcoming release! What with the success in your… ahem… genre, I’m sure it won’t take long before your on the NYT Bestseller lists yourself! 😮 How exciting!!
;>) Unfortunately, despite its excellent title, your book won’t sell, Kat. Reviewers only read books with “Girl” in the title: https://mitchteemley.com/2016/04/28/all-books-without-girl-in-title-banned-2/
Ah. Well, GOOD NEWS: I’m currently working on a manuscript titled “The Girl In Black”. https://morethanivebeen.wordpress.com/2016/09/07/my-trip-to-jupiter-and-other-fascinating-life-updates/
So I guess I’m set. I’ll just have to expedite work on that and get it published. Good tip! Thanks for the advice; you probably just saved my career!! 😅
Love the picture, black and white with the colourful paint. Awesome
I have nominated you for the 3 Quotations in 3 Days Challenge. Please go to my site for the rules:

I’ve had a proper chuckle, Mitch. Thank you. 🙂
Well, glad it wasn’t an IMproper chuckle. Couldn’t have that now, could we? ;>)
Ha! 🙂
Me too… the proper ‘truly did laugh out loud’ chuckle! And so glad for the truths woven within! 🙂
I love the quotes! Derivative, schrivative – three cheers for originality!
It’s kinda like God made you and then threw away the mold. Did God do that because you turned out so wonderful or because He didn’t want anymore like you. Gotcha. LOL
I would totally read that from you.
;>)
Congratulations. Love the title of your post and the quote as they ring so true for me. You-nique is the only way to go no matter how painful and lonely it can get.
Thank you for the like to my post, I’m glad you did to allow me discovering you and from the little I have seen, I love your style and posts. I’m sure I will have to follow up with the book 😉
Thank you, and good to connect, Rhapsody!
Is it your first time to write a novel? I would love to read your books 🙂
Hi, Mitch. If I could trouble you for a moment, would you mind letting me know why you chose to stop following my blog, especially after you’d requested access to my site when it was private.
Have I done something to offend you? If you’d prefer, you can reply to me privately via email. If you would take the time to reply, I’d deeply appreciate the honest feedback. Thanks for your time.
