Thought for the Week
Time demands too much of our time
It pretends to be indifferent, yet creates chaos when we ignore it
It demands our attention, and yet keeps to itself
Only when we dream are we free from time
But the moment we return we discover
it has looted our houses and defaced our possessions
Time simply cannot be trusted
In truth, we’d be better off without it
Perhaps that’s why in the end we say
“I’m finally out of time”
But until then we’ll be in time
and what are we to do with it?
(Concluded after pictures)
What Are We to Do With Time?
“I had a clock and a watch, but I destroyed them both. I could not bear the way they mocked me.” ~Susanna Clarke
“Aside from velcro, time is the most mysterious substance in the universe.” ~Dave Barry
“In a future existence, we shall look upon what we think our present existence as a dream.” ~Edgar Allan Poe
“‘I wish it need not have happened in my time,’ said Frodo. ‘So do I,’ said Gandalf, ‘and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.’” ~J.R.R. Tolkien
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men, yet they cannot fathom the work that God has done from beginning to end.” ~Ecclesiastes 3:11
“The best use of life is love. The best expression of love is time. And the best time to love is now.” ~Rick Warren

Really nice to read. Glad I took the time too: )
;>) Thanks, Luna.
Your post was on time, no pun intended:)
Yes it was. ;>)
I didn’t think I had the time to read your post, but I found the time. 🙂
A timely decision, Nancy.
Then there is the not-so-profound sign the teacher made to cover up the clock on the classroom wall: “Time passes. Will you?”
;>)
The question is not how much time we have, but how we set our priorities to make use of it… many don’t see that.
Creative, cogent work, Mitch, if I may say. I’m drawn the poetry, especially. The quotations are telling, too, and of course well-selected. You have me thinking on Gollum’s riddle about time.
Why, thank you, Christopher.
So good, Mitch!
Thank you, Wynne!
Very thoughtful! Time moves forward no matter how fast or slow we want it to go!
Interesting post. Enjoyed the images of the different clocks. New thoughts about time. Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure, San.
Thought provoking and insightful 👍👍👍
Thank you, Lalita.
The time it took me to read was as long as it takes a smile to go from twitch to grin. Thanks, Mitch.
My pleasure, Cogito (afraid I don’t know your name).
You are at no disadvantage, sir, by addressing any online messages to Yours Truly by the name one gives to one’s virtual persona. Reading your post on the great temporal illusion, I think, therefore I am, enjoying “God’s Time.” Thank you for sharing the pleasure.
Said the Roman serf upon seeing the first sundial, “Oh, woe is me, for now my day is divided forever into segments for which I must account.”🤠
Me, too, serf.
Said the Roman serf on seeing the first sundial, “Oh, woe is me for now my day is divided into segments of which I must give account.” Only he said it in Latin.
Me, too, serf, me, too.🤠

“To everything, turn, turn, turn
There is a season, turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven” — Turn, Turn, Turn: The Byrds
Love The Byrds, love the song. It’s based on Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, btw.
Time like money is something we spend. You can use time to get money, but you can’t use money to get more time. Which has more value? I truly appreciate when people spend their time with me and have been making sure to thank them for it.
Wise words, Ruth.
Good old Frodo and Gandalf!
When I showed up unprepared for my weekly organ lesson, my teacher asked me why I hadn’t practiced during the week. I was not a child and I didn’t try making up excuses. I told him it had been an extremely busy week with family and doctor appointments, “I just didn’t have the time.” He responded with a line I will never forget: “You didn’t have time? Why, you have all there is!”
Think about it.
Wonderful post, Mitch.
;>) Thanks, Nancy.
Very welcome, Mitch.
Hmm—time is emit backwards. Might there be a deeper connection to explore?
And Emmet Kelley was the most famous clown of his time. Coincidence? I think not!
Temme was his offstage name.

Another quote about time……”Time gentlemen, please!! ” and you get thrown out the pub. (Pubs at closing time in England) But no such problem here in Peru. Perhaps that is why I decided to stay here all these years!!!!!!

“Aliens invented time.” –Jeff Cann
Aha, I knew it!
Beautifully written. Thank you
Why, thank you, Nancy.
Great post, Mitch, and much to ponder! Love the pics, too!
Thank you, Peggy!
I love the Susanna Clarke quote.
I picked Eccl 3:11 for my wedding verse and I have loved it since then.
Truly, and well said. Time is very mysterious.
It is indeed, OJ.
