“Decorate your home. It gives the illusion that your life is more interesting than it really is.” ~Charles M. Schulz
Man, those 80’s boomboxes were big! This real house in Fafe, Portugal has a built in sound system that exclusively plays…wait for it…hard rock (rim shot).
“People who live in glass houses…” The completely transparent Fujimoto House Na is in Tokyo, Japan (as opposed to, say, Tokyo, France).
Just Enough Island on the St. Lawrence River in Canada. “Visit us sometime, eh? Nah, just kidding. Now, go away, eh.”
The world’s skinniest abode, Keret House in Poland is just 36″ wide at its widest point. Adds new meaning to the term “sleepover.”
In response to rising property prices, this makeshift suburb was (illegally) built on the roof of a shopping mall in Hunan, China.
The Mushroom House in Cincinnati, Ohio, where I live (um, in Cincinnati, not in the house). It’s for sale, so share a doobie and make an offer, man. And stay mellow.
Home of South Korea’s “Mr. Toilet” Sim Jae-duck (a politician known for beautifying public utilities). Cleaning is a breeze. Just flush.
Home of the Paro Taktsang monks of Bhutan since the 17th century (they would have left long ago, actually, but can’t figure out how to get down).
A home for God? This “deconstructed church” was designed by California architect Michael Jantzen, but God said, “Thanks, I’m gonna pass on this one.”
We’ll be home for the holidays, so drop by, won’t ya? And bring the kids–we’ll make room. It’s cramped, but we love it.

Not entirely sure I would enjoy the see-through house in Tokyo… especially at bathroom time, or when I wanted to watch television… but, this was a cool post! Thank you for sharing, and for the chuckles!
;>) Good to hear from you again, Anni!
Thanks! 😂
Thanks, Mitch. Now I know how the other half lives (the weirdos). That deconstructed church gives me a headache. Seriously?
So interesting!
I agree you can have a nice looking house that you spend money on but if your miserable that home that you spent years trying to perfect isn’t going to make you happy it’s just bricks, glass and lights find true happiness and the only way is by getting saved and putting your love in god he’s the only way.
This was great! I’d love to see the inside of some of these structures, but not so much as the transparent house!
;>)
Such an interesting article!
Wild stuff! By the way, I think you should sell your house and buy the Mushroom house.
Whoa, man, I was just thinkin’ that, like, deja vu.
I love this!!
We don’t talk like that, eh. *smirk*
;>)
What a great post, Mitch. There are many more homes like these to be found. They are all unique and should be an interesting visit. I would take up an invite anywhere.
Yes–I’d love to do a Weird Houses Tour!
Where do you find these great photos?? I have to admit, I wouldn’t worship in that church….nor visit the house on that island!
The church was never actually built (that’s just the architect’s Photoshopped design). And the house on the island? They apparently don’t want guests, anyway, eh. ;>)
These are fantastic! Thanks for the laugh! 🙂
All very interesting Mitch. But I think that the deconstructed church photo might be Photoshop. There’s some odd artifacts in the sky around the building.
Yep, it is.
Great places! Gives us ideas.
Can you imagine cleaning the windows on that transparent house?
Oy! Forget modesty, THAT would be the deal-breaker for me!
