A Lockdown Lookback
In the midst of the Great COVID Lockdown of 2020, my wife and I said no to cabin fever and took a series of staycaydaytrips (staycation daytrips). Hotels were closed. Food–when you could find it–was take-out only. Bathrooms were a treasure hunt (we baptized more than a few bushes). But the roads were clear, and so were the skies, and life went on. Despite everything, we had a lovely time, and took lots of pictures along the way!

Wow! Those are beautiful pictures!
Thank you!
Nice photos.
Thanks, T.
My pleasure.
Gorgeous
Thank you, Howard.
Love these, Mitch! Especially that old gas station! Reminds me of my dad, his career as an “oil man” and our Ohio roots. 🥰
Always happy to evoke (good) memories, Vicki.
🥰
Tom and I did a drive through Disney and International Drive at the height of the lockdown. The Disney shuttle buses were all parked in the lot that normally held tourists. The only living soul we saw were police cars guarding the entrances of each park. It was surreal, like everyone had disappeared.
I love your pics!
We had the same feeling on the campus of Dennison University, Debi. And, yes, Disney would normally have been overflowing with tourists!
Beautiful 🤩
Thank you, Iman.
Thoroughly loved the photos. I was privileged to live outside of Dayton, OH for 8 years 1988-1996. This Floridian enjoyed the warm friendliness of the people and the beautiful countryside. The whole time I was there, I viewed my surroundings through a tourist’s eyes, knowing it would only be temporary. My daughter’s passion for creative writing brought us to Dennison U for a writing workshop/contest 35 years ago. I loved it there–so historical, peaceful, and gorgeous. Thank you for the trip down memory lane there, and also to Cincinnati, Oxford, and Covington, other favorite visiting spots.
I know what you mean, MissP, Dennison U and the town of Granville are just charming. And, yes, Oxford and Covington are regular haunts for us.
Wowza!!! BEAUTIFUL pictures, Mitch!!
Why, thank you, Dori. It’s not everyday that I get a “wowza!” ;>)
😂
These are so refreshing! I was recovering from total reverse shoulder replacement, so the only place I got to go was to physical therapy, all masked up.
<3
My husband and I did the same thing during the lockdown. It helped.
I love the combination of images of nature trails and cities/towns. Great photography by both you and Trudy! 🙂
Thank you, Nancy!
Beautiful photos. My husband Paul and I did the same and continue to do so now. It’s good to get out of the “cabin” every once in a while, just to get a change of scenery. God always provides great art❤️
He does indeed, Kathy.
Four years already?!
Love it! Yes, one had to get outside of the four walls!
Yep!
Good way to spend the lockdown. I’m not sure we fully understand yet how much it changed us.
I think you’re right, Rob.
Fabulous photos! Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure, Priscilla.
Ah, the restroom dilemma. It kept us from doing a number of things…actually I am still concerned about my next bathroom stop more so than my next meal.
I understand, DK. The two are connected, after all.
Great photos Mitch. It’s difficult to recall that Covid madness actually happened. Such a crazy time. You and your wife spent it well.
Thanks, Kate.
such a. hard time for so many reasons
Those are some very Beautiful Photos. You have some great memories there on what was a dark, sat moment.
Sad moment , Not sat. Sorry
Beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing
There is something quite mesmerising about the fungus picture in particular. 🍄
I was struck by its beauty and wanted to capture the image.
Very nice and I love the White Squirrel.
Good for you.
BEAUTIFUL pictures ♥️
Thank you, pk.
That was a very wise way to cope with the lockdown! (And one of the many reasons I’m glad leaving your house was actually allowed in the US, unlike in Australia or Spain, etc.) The more we could live our “normal lives”, (with caution, of course) the better off we were. My husband and I spent a lot of time outdoors, and later, when it was allowed, on a lot of restaurant patios! Emotional and mental health is important, I think.
It certainly is, Ann.
Beautiful photos from a truly unique time in our shared histories. I never want to live through another pandemic but it did make us appreciate these staycaytion daytrip moments and time together in a way that we’ve never had before.
