A MAGICAL PLACE

From the yellow hut

near the power plant’s river

he’s shocked to see fish.

THE INTERNAL NOTEBOOK

She scratches the spot

on her arm where her parents

buried deep their dreams.

ALONE AT THE FAIR WITH MONEY

Rubber duck winnings

buys popcorn, moo-moos, a pony,

car rides, burst balloons.

UNDERSTANDING A FATEFUL EVENT

The conflagration

took the dollhouse, tiny woods,

all her play spaces.

  1. Alone at the Fair with Money appeals to me the most. It is filled with nostalgic triggers. Thanks for sharing, Mitch. Good luck, Jonathan! 🙂

  2. Wow. I usually struggle with Haikus, but these are wonderful. The second and fourth particularly struck me.
