A few years back, while capturing some pre-production images for an upcoming feature film, I turned to our director-of-photography, Jeff, and launched into one of my legendary “which reminds me of the time when…” narratives (something I limit myself to doing no more than once every five minutes).
At that moment, my first-born, Elliot, who was also a member of the film crew, arrived with a tripod, set it down, and rolled their eyes at me, affectionately (I choose to believe).
I defended myself against the eyebrow commentary: “Hey, that story wasn’t just out of the blue, you know. I was responding to something Jeff said.”
Elliot patted me on the shoulder and replied, “Well, then, good for you, Dad! You were having a what’s called a ‘conversation.'”
I’ve been teaching my children to banter since the day they were born. And they, in turn, have taught me many things. But in recent years I’ve noticed a dramatic escalation in the quality of their sarcasm. And I couldn’t be prouder. Don’t you just glow when your kids surpass you at something?
Which reminds me of the time when…

hahaha good one
How does that old saying go? Like Mitch, like Elliot! 😉
lol apples that don’t fall far from the tree are either pleasing to the tree or shocking in their tree-revelations. ;0)
;>)
Love it Mitch. My grandson said to me the other day “you remind me of my dad when you say that” (some witty remark I’m sure he meant). “You do too Bud”
Your legacy is secure, Gary!
🤣😂😆 It sounds like she’s got sarcasm down pat!
Oh, yes!
🤣
You never know what your kids will pick up!
LOL! Yes, it does make me proud. 😄
😂 priceless!!
Thank you, Anonymous. May I call you “Nony” for short? ;>)
True, true, true…it’s the best part of parenting. Once they know all of our tricks and stories, they have all the *material* they need, don’t they? 🥰🤣🥰
They do indeed.
You have surpassed yourself, Mitch! This was your funniest blog yet! I’m in a day of nonstop meetings, and your blog lifted me. People are wondering why I am smiling! I almost laughed out loud when I read: “... launched into one of my legendary “which reminds me of the time when…” narratives (something I limit myself to doing no more than once every five minutes). Thank you, thank you!
My pleasure, Joanne!
I was amazed the day I heard my mother’s words come out of my mouth. Even more so when I heard my voice coming out of my daughter’s mouth.
The way of history winding through time.
God bless!
So true, Nancy.
Oh yes! That line between laughter and “did you really just say that to me?” 😉
;>)
Children can become our little parrots!💗
Who raise little parrots, who raise little parrots, who…
When my kids were young, they were cute like Spyro the baby dragon, but over time they have slowly grown and those cute little flames out of their mouths aren’t so cute anymore….
Aside from that, the kids are now faster than me at racing Go Karts, etc which I’m sort of proud about.
Mitch, this lifted my day! I love it! Along with giggling, my heart smiled. That cat, though,…tee hee (eye rolls!).
Yep, the minute I saw that photo, I knew it was the one! ;>)
This reminds me of the time when…. (I do the same thing!)
I sort of suspected I wasn’t alone in that, LuAnne. ;>)
Oh, I understand you well. My kids are all grown up and I totally love to see them surpassing me in ways… so proud of them!
They surpass us for better and worse… Sometimes when my little boo boo does something not so desirable that I know he got straight from me I just say, “I’m sorry, Lord.”
;>)
Haha! Good for Elliot!
I LOVE it … (& the cat picture is cool, too)
It’s lovely to see the hard work pay off! 😆
I know, right?!
Thanks for the laughs and so very true!
;>)
Lil- feel
This one Mitch. Now my grandchildren are coming for me 🤣
;>)
So funny! 🙂
Haha…I’m getting there too! 😂😅
My son wants to do physical activities like working out. I encourage it and join in with him. His teenage energy though is boundless and I have to remind him “i ain’t as good as i once was…” since he likes country music he gets the reference and my point.
;>)
My friend some things about you will never change. Many blessings to you today! Thanks for stopping by.
Quipping with adult children is a well-deserved perk, after all those years of teenage dram und sturm.
Amen to that, Pam!

they definitely learn to mimic huh
My son, especially, has surpassed me in several ways, especially technically and technologically. One of the reasons, among others, that I’m happy with that is he can help me sometimes! (He’s also better at sarcasm, usually not in a mean way, but bantering, as you put it.)
That is too good!
Thank you, Rachel!
