It’s My Country’s 250th Anniversary…
…and this is my declaration of independence. These days, the very meaning of the term “patriotism” is being fiercely contested, both here and in other countries throughout the world. What better time to ask, “What is my role in sustaining freedom and democracy?”
Preachers, teachers and group leaders: If you’re looking for a brief-but-powerful illustration about what patriotism means, especially for people of faith, my 2 1/2 minute video may just be it. In the film, four ordinary people remind us it means not only to celebrate, but to participate: “I may not be one of America’s founders, but I am one of its continuers!” My Declaration is available from church film distributor Sermon Central. Thank you for making this video, Mitch. It needed to be said.
Thank you, Liz. 🧡
As I read on someone’s Substack, we need to shift away from Christian Nationalism to Christian Patriotism.
Maybe, we should just give up on ‘isms’ and turn to Christ?
Wonderful, Mitch!
Thank you, Carol!
I love the term, continuers! What an important pursuit.
🧡
This is a strong message that needed to be shown, great job Mitch.
Thanks, Ernie!
Well here’s hoping we can continue
Amen to that, Matt.
Sadly, over here we think patriotism also means knowing the regional language 🤷♀️. If you don’t know you’re not patriotic.
A powerful message and reminder that freedom isn’t free.
Exactly, and thank you, Jennifer.
Wishing you a Happy Independence Day, Mitch.
Thank you, you too, Andrew.
My declaration is Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Hebrews 13:8
Amen, Cora. 🧡
