They’re the oldest and largest living things on earth. They make and cleanse most of the air that we breathe — we literally couldn’t survive without them. Perhaps it’s because I’m currently reading Richard Powers’ marvelous tree-centric novel The Overstory, that I keep thinking about these ancient chroniclers of time. If flowers are the earth’s children, trees are its elders, the faithful storers of its wisdom.

I love trees…👍👍
Awesome photos! I love trees of all kinds and find walking quietly among them gives me space to think and talk to their designer.
Lovely!
Very unique and beautiful pictures!
Oh, that book was heartbreaking…
Richard Powers’ book is amazing. I can no longer look at trees the same way again.
Love this gallery! I had posted something about Psalm 55:12-13 and how “the trees of the field shall clap their hands” If trees are this amazing here, imagine them in perfected glory! http://drivingtowardmorning.blog/2021/11/28/shall-the-trees-clap-their-hands/
These are absolutely AMAZING pictures! My wife in the next room – hearing me “ooo!” and “ahhh!” here in the kitchen – called out, “What’s wrong, sweetie?” It took me back to early memories of tree climbing as a young man. That was one of my favorite places to get away and be alone.
So… it sounds as if you recommend “Overstory,” eh?
I’m still reading it, but so far I find utterly engrossing and beautifully written. So, yes.
Wow, those trees are breathtaking, mysterious, and even scary. As if there was another being in them.
Tree-top towns / homes are so fascinating. Reminds me of Lord of The Rings. Cool pics!
These pictures and quotes fit together like poetry. Beautiful!
Trees are what we live for. You’re never alone if you sit with your back against a tree.

Have you heard or seen the BibleProject videos/podcasts on trees & their biblical symbolism? Here’s a starting appetizer. https://bibleproject.com/explore/video/tree-of-life/
Not until now. I’ll check it out. Thanks, Anne!
This post has just made my week! I think you know by now how much I LOVE trees!

Thank you, Mitch Teemley for your wise and wonderful trees. Yes, they are earth’s elders, storing its wisdom. Trees are also central to children learning about life and nature. They play a big role. Very big.
I’m honored, Jennie.
You are most welcome, Mitch. It was that good!
What a beautiful collection of trees and quotes. Thank you.
My pleasure, Norah.
An absolutely stunning post, Mitch. The images are fascinating, and the quotes beautiful. Loved this.
I wish everyone understood their great importance! Thank you for the reminder😁
Trees are such a favorite topic of mine and such a prominent biblical topic as well! Capturing authors imagination galore! There’s something there our hearts know, even if we don’t!
Your commercial should have won Mitch!
As to yesterday, Joe Burrow is still clutch. How tragic though for the receiver who took his eyes off the ball on the key Bengal down late in the 4th quarter. Hope it motivates him to be back next year, when the Bengals win the whole thing.
I will get this in the right spot. Must be a little tired this a.m.
The Overstory is one of the best books I’ve ever read, and I read a lot. I recommend it to people all the time.
Cool post. I followed your blog.
Oh, my; thanks for the wonderful photos! I love trees almost everywhere, especially in forests. One of my favorite places to see them is a little bit different; it’s the Cypress Grove Trail at Point Lobos State Reserve, where you also get to walk along a cliff, overlooking the ocean.
Yes!
Wondrous images and interesting quotes. Dancing a solemn pavane in winter is yet another talent of trees:
*Seen from Inside*
Swaying in the wind,
bare trees dance to Earth music
not heard thru the glass.
Nice, MC. I particularly like your phrase, “Dancing a solemn pavane in winter.”
Thank you, I ADORE trees! Some lovely quotes too.
My pleasure, Ramona.

Tree’s are absolutely magical! I always feel this powerful connection to the trees that are around me. I’ve made friends with certain trees on my adventures and will always go back to visit them… They hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures of these magnificent beasts! So mesmerizing.. Also, I LOVE the John Muir quote about finding the way to the universe through a forest wilderness… I completely resonate with it..
Inspirational quotations and one TREEmendous photo gallery, Mitch! Kudos to you re pics 6, 8, 17, 21, 22, 24, 26, 27, 40, 46 & 50. Justin Hayward had a few whimsical words of wisdom, too…
“Something calls to me
The trees are drawing me near
I’ve got to find out why
Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh”
He does have a way with lyrics. I was a huge Moody Blues fan back in the day. Thanks, Tom!
You’re welcome. Some apt lyrics for a Tuesday Afternoon…
Many thanx for sharing these very diverse pics. Gotta love nature.

These photos are so lovely! And trees are very valuable to this planet. We should preserve them
Amen to that, Mariana!
