I’m wearing swastika-free socks right now. That’s a pretty obvious fact, I realize. But the point is, it’s obvious thanks to my father (lower right hand corner in the above photo) and many others like him.
On the 11th day of the 11th month, the horror known as World War I ended. The date was appropriately named Armistice (“the laying down of arms”) and is still called
Armistice Day in the UK, in France and New Zealand, and in many other countries. Some call it Remembrance Day. In the United States we call it Veterans Day.
Whatever you call it, thank a veteran when you meet them, and take a moment to pray for them–perhaps at the traditional 11th hour. It was their courage, after all, that helped make it possible for us to choose swastika-free socks, cars, homes…and lives.
And also, I might add, to live the way we choose to live. Which for me includes writing allegorical stories about accepting others for who they are, an underlying theme of my epic fantasy The Wishing Map. To read today’s episode, click here.

My sincere gratitude to all veterans including your father. Thank you very much 💖🥇🏆
You’re welcome, Mitch.

God bless you father, Mitch, and all those courageous men who served.
Great post, My grandfathers, father and uncle served in our military, in different branches, and I am proud of all of them.
Your dad and many others also made sure our language today is still English, not Japanese or German. Thank you, veterans! 🇺🇸
Thanks, Mitch. That’s an awesome post. Far too many people are forgetting the sacrifices our parents and grandparents made to keep us free.
Today I remember my time at sea, involved in the six day war in the Med. Israel vs everyone surrounding them. Our battle group stalked and threatened by Russian guided missle cruisers. Our sister ship, the Liberty, almost sunk off the coast. War now. Same theatre, same threats, same territory. Shalom.
Shalom, Anonymous.
That was me Mitch

my youngest brother (unwanted spare to his one year older brother) died at the age of 23, trying to protect a village in the 1990ies in Croatia’s war of independence – at 23 years of age – why can’t we just understand and love each other…??? and live… !?…
Amen!
I live in Normandy, so i periodically visit the landing beaches and memorials. Every time I am surprised by how much i am moved.
Thank you to all who served and continue to serve everyday to protect our freedoms.
Taking a moment to thank all the veterans…💓
That’s the truth…sometimes we forget just how much we do owe our veterans!
Praise God for the members of our military and their families.
