Thought for the Week
Wisdom lies not in avoiding risks,
but in taking them for the right reasons.
“Why not go out on a limb? That’s where the fruit is.”
~Mark Twain

What a great picture and a great quote. I wonder how the photographer took this picture–probably from a helicopter hanging beside the cliff. I feel the excitement of danger when looking at such a picture. LOL.
My kind of people!!
“And now, Mr. Twain, there are TWO fruits out on a limb!” 🙂 My father positioned young me for a photo standing on the edge of a cliff that overlooked an entire mountain range. My mom nearly fainted when she saw the photo, but I’d felt one with the range for a moment. Later, of course, I had to stand apart in dark sunglasses away from the other moms, as I would sob in sheer terror while irreplaceable daughter wildly rode cross-country on things that weighed 1500 lbs. But it gave her something..
TWO fruits out on a limb! Ha ha ha! It took me a minute.
Great picture! Great quote! Yes, life is a calculated risk, and “security” is a mirage, maybe more dangerous than what we fear! (And you can take that statement for whatever you think it means…)
The picture is beautiful, but I can’t help but see it through the eyes of a mom/grandma/great-grandma. NOOOOOO!!!
Great quotes from two amazing people… My mom took me to see the Helen Keller movie “The Miracle Worker” when it first came out, with Patty Duke and Anne Bancroft. Incredible movie to watch for an impressionable little girl.
Thanks for sharing and the trip to memory lane on the way back machine. 😊
Helen Keller was an extraordinary child who, with Annie Sullivan’s help, became an extraordinary woman.
Wow! I Agree. Life is not secure even when you have all safety nets set up. So, better live it up than keep avoiding the inevitable.
Helen Keller really ‘saw’ it because she took risks in life herself. First Blind and deaf graduate, writer. someone who could neither see nor hear showed others what it meant to really live.
She did indeed, Shaily.
Taking them for the right reasons – I can go for that.
Yeah, I felt it was important to add that “catch.”
Nailed it! Profoundly true, yet amazingly elusive, I find.
