Our Waterfalls and Wine Tour

Five years ago this month, my wife Trudy and I hit the road for upstate New York — and we encountered waterfalls and wine at every turn! First, we traveled to the village of Westfield, heart of the oldest (and still second largest) wine-producing region in the U.S. It’s also where my great-great grandparents immigrated to nearly two hundred years ago. After Westfield, we visited breathtaking Niagara Falls, America’s oldest national park, and briefly Buffalo. Then on to beautiful Seneca Lake (also known for its vineyards), and finally down to Watkins Glen at the base of Seneca Lake — where my great grandparents lived. We visited one final waterfall in the Cuyahoga Valley on our way home.

Nothing like imagining a waterfall with wine spilling over the sides,

I pass by the region often on my way up to Toronto. Your gorgeous photos are a reminder that I should extend my trip and spend some time with the falls and vineyards.

You were within half an hour of where my latest story obsession takes place, Painted Post, with several Seneca references and characters in them, plus (can you believe it) coondogs! (The Ryland Creek Saga by Joseph Gary Crance, an area native.)

  6. Beautifully composed images of Niagara Falls and the area. The clouds and water angles are dynamic-simply gorgeous. Your pictures bring back fond memories. Michael and I honeymooned in Niagara Falls and Toronto. 🙂

  7. Love your wife’s Niagara US photos. We did the Canadian side of the Falls, but didn’t build into our stay the US side. Regret that.

Beautiful pictures! The northeast has a certain charm this time of year. That charm however is short-lived come winter! Brrr..🥶
