Bless you, Mitch, for giving me the gift of an introduction to Jennie, whose posts I’ve been weeping through for the last hour! Sometimes crying and remembering and entering others’ worlds is therapeutic, and today apparently I needed that. She writes radiantly, poignantly and wisely.

  4. Wow! What a terrific story with a happy ending. Thanks for introducing Jennie.

  5. I love this story and I also love Jennie. I can see why she is a great teacher and that story really grabbed me.
My dog story isn’t quite that tragic, but I had a Pekinese named Max. We were living in a bad neighborhood where gunfire would break out at times. One night Max woke me up barking and then he hurtled off the bed and ran to the front door raising such a ruckus that I crawled out to see what was going on. I found the front door standing open and knew I had closed and locked it prior to going to bed. It was apparent that Max had scared an intruder off. It was also apparent that the intruder had a key to that door. We moved out the next day after returning my keys to the landlord who admitted that a lot of former renters had not returned keys and that he had not changed any locks after they left. I wasn’t too surprised to hear that since I had been visited by the police before that night looking for someone who supposedly lived in that house. After that I made sure locks were changed before I moved into another apartment. No more houses for me even though I had loved living in that one. Max earned himself a steak dinner that night after I grilled some steak and gave him a few bites.

  6. Another heartwarming story from Jennie! She is a marvel.
