Thought for the Week
Have you ever crashed head-on into the old you, and discovered how much you dislike that worldly, self-absorbed person? I have. And, truth be told, there’s still far too much of him in me. 1% would be too much, and frankly it’s a lot more than 1%.
There’s only one WMD (Weapon of Mass Deliverance) in my arsenal. Fortunately it’s an incredibly powerful one: Prayer. Still, a weapon is only useful when it’s used. And the challenge I face every day is:
To prayerfully and fearlessly live what I believe, rather than believe what I live—the way the world that “that guy” came from still lives.

When I feel myself becoming somewhat disconnected, it’s always because I have fallen off in my prayer life.
Making you oh so relatable, Mitch. . .
Man… speaking to me today. Thank you!
My privilege, Scott.
Know the feeling very well… woke up with it today. Going to listen to something spiritual until I can feel “better.”
“To prayerfully and fearlessly live what I believe, rather than believe what I live.” This sums up so much!
Glad it clicked for you, John.
Amen, Mitch! Wise words and reminders! I love this–Weapon of Mass Deliverance–PRAYER! Many blessings, dear friend! I appreciate you!
Likewise, dear friend!
Thank you!!
I agree, when my prayer life takes a back seat, I typically become way too self-centered and just… ugh, gross.
“Live what I believe, rather than believe what I live…”
Whoa, that is such a good line and really resonates!
Glad it resonated with you, Abe.
Mitch,
That old man is trouble through and through. I pray through Jesus you see him pass away poste haste.
In Christ, Gary

Self-reflection – so very good!
Thank you, Mary!
Just remember that living what you believe will put you out of synch with the majority of the people. It can be lonely, so yes, talking to your friend, God, helps.
I have been thinking about the upside-down world Jesus invites us to live in–a world where we have to be vulnerable enough to step into the unknown and to trust that God has us, a world where our weakness is our strength. We need courage to live in that space of vulnerability; it is the opposite of most of what our culture values.
It is indeed, Madeline.
Striving to emerge from an egotistical chrysalis as a mature follower of Jesus will get us on the right path. Lesson learned. 🙂
Our older self also our younger inexperienced and caught in the consumer world rather than spiritual perhaps.
Yep, Mitch, I have done that and lived through it. Sometimes I like the older me, and sometimes not. My younger self was too darn driven. I pray everyday, but probably not enough, but am working on that. As Nancy says, Jesus will get you on the right path. That sounds like a country song, right?
;>) It does, Phil.
I love this Mitch. I have once in a great while bumped into the old me, which I actually find very interesting. I am reminded of what I have been and what I don’t want to be..:) Thank you
My privilege, Janet.
Same with ‘that ol’ lady’ I pray away every day, too, Mitch! Thanks for being so pleasantly candid! You make me smile often! One of my prayers is to make God smile daily, to live to please Him. I have a feeling you make Him smile a lot! 😁😁
;>)
Truthful. Clear. Profound. Thanks, Mitch. I needed that.
Glad it spoke to you, Bob.
I completely understand about the old self.
Our God can get out every bit of what this world and people have done to us that cause damage.
He has given me beauty for ashes!
When God changes our hearts we are like new and more like His son, our King, Jesus!
Have a great week ahead Mitch!
You too, Cora!
Thank you!
To Prayerfully and Fearlessly…. Something changes by God’s Grace 🙏
Amen! No matter what my physical condition, I can pray.
Very true, Julie.
Great wisdom! Thanks for sharing, Mitch.
My privilege, Peggy.
“live what I believe, rather than believe what I live” – Amen!!!
Nice post, thanks for sharing
My pleasure.
