Help, I’m Being WordPress Supressed!

Thought for the Week

Dear blogger friends, I need your help! (And this may just help you too.) My blog is collapsing! Unless the cause (likely some algorithmic glitch) is repaired, this site will drop from 14,000 subscribers to zero! And, no, it’s not because I’ve started posting evil, heinous things (granted some of my puns are pretty lame).

For ten years, this site gained an average of 100 new subscribers per month. Now it’s losing 100 subscribers per month! That’s a drop rate of -3,000%! And this isn’t about inactive unsubscribers (I’m happy to “lose” those who were never really here); it’s about legitimate subscribers. Until last March, blog visits had grown steadily for ten years. Now they’re down 30%, and new subscribers have nearly vanished. I often visit blog sites I’m unable to follow (no subscribe button), so I can’t help but wonder if that’s happening here.

But even though their own charts show it (below), WordPress is pressing me for proof. They want me to get other bloggers to testify that they’ve experienced any of the problems below. (Note: They want url and email addresses to prove I didn’t make you up.) So, please let me know…

If you’ve experienced any of the following:

  • Unable to Like a blog (i.e. Like button not loading)
  • Unable to Comment on a blog with a comment box
  • Unable to Subscribe to a blog
  • Not receiving blog post notifications
  • Not receiving notifications about likes or replies to your comments
  • Being automatically “unsubscribed” from a site

My WordPress Subscriber Charts

  1. Growth throughout 2023
  2. Slow-down, reaching zero-growth in March of this year
  3. Collapse (loss of 100 subscribers per month) beginning in late September

Love and blessings!

Mitch

Oh my goodness, Mitch. That’s awful. I’m so low on the subscriber list that I don’t have any issues but I will definitely report them if I do. So sorry.

  2. CJ Antichow says:

Oh no this is awful! Hope you get it resolved. I’m way too small to have these worries lol,

  3. Anonymous says:

This certainly appears to be a WordPress problem. I’ll be vigilant in watching for clues. One thing, though. I noticed a short time ago that when I receive notice of a new post by a site to which I’ve subscribed… they no longer offer the “like” link on any of the emails themselves. “Like” remains on the page itself, but you can’t simply hit it on the email and then close the opening window without reading the full post (the way I imagine some time-pressed subscribers do).

That, of course, would not account for a decrease in subscribers themselves, but might explain a reduction in overall “like” numbers.

  4. ktz2 says:

I have not experienced any of those problems in my subscription, but I had the thought that perhaps WP is choosing to eliminate some of your inactive subs from the high total ? Meaning those who came by only once when they signed up seeking a reciprocal subbing to their blogs, or just those inactive for whatever other reasons over the years. Really, I’m just guessing,

    • mitchteemley says:

Hi Kate. I addended the second paragraph above to include the fact that blog traffic has dropped dramatically and new subscribers are almost nonexistent, as well. Also, I often visit bloggers I never hear from, and they’re always still subscribed to me. So inactive subs don’t seem to be the core issue.

  5. I have often been unable to “like” posts or comments, or have “liked” something only to have my “like” disappear shortly afterward. I’ve also been unsubscribed from sites I was subscribed to, and/or failed to receive notifications of new posts or comments. Because this has happened to me so many times, I have to assume that others have the same problem with my blog. For years my subscribers increased, slowly but steadily, but this year that hasn’t happened. I sometimes gain a new subscriber or two, but the total number doesn’t change, so either older subscribers are unsubscribing or WP is unsubscribing them.

  6. SiriusSea says:

Yes! Have experienced many glitches and I’m a small blog! Baffling and I hope you resolve this phantom unfollowing of subscribers … You and your site always put a smile on this kisser (lol) ~ <3

  7. Hope my comment helps but please delete it immediately as may provide clandestine entry to my blog , please reply DONE

  8. I have had trouble a few times liking or commenting on blogs. I have been unsubscribed from my own blog several times over the 11+ years I have had it, and I keep a list of others who have been unsubscribed from mine and forward my blog when it comes.

  9. trE says:

I really haven’t had any of these issues at all. But I don’t have the type of following you have, though. I wonder if accounts with a certain amount of followers are being targeted? 🥺🥺🥺

  10. Wynne Leon says:

I’m sorry this is happening, Mitch. When I get your emails, I only get the “comment” button and not the “like” button. Was it always that way? I know that the different WordPress platforms handle that email differently.

    • mitchteemley says:

Hi Wynne. Yes, I understand likes are not available in the email version because email subscribers are considered non-bloggers (even though many of them are), and are, therefore, not allowed to like posts. Unclean, unclean! ;>).

  11. Staci Troilo says:

WP stopped notifying me of posts years ago. They unsubscribed me from friends’ sites and even my own, and I was unable to successfully resubscribe. I finally had to use lists in the reader to follow people I wanted to keep track of. So far, that’s worked for me. But i’m dealing with other odd WP glitches. I hope you manage to get it straightened out. I never did.

  12. My only glitch is I can’t type in a new tag for a post and, worse, have few former ones to click on — and those don’t include faith tags.🤦 My ‘blog is a free one, so I just work with whatever, but I hope you (and any others) can get this matter sorted out, Mitch.

  13. I’ve experienced all of that and my blog too is suffering with a lot less traffic than it use to. I’m getting close to moving to a different platform or just stopping blogging.

  14. Gail Perry says:

My blog is small, and I’m not really very active in the blogosphere, so I haven’t encountered any of those issues. Sorry for your loss!

  15. Ana Daksina says:

I have experienced numbers 1, 2 and 4 on your list.

  16. Anonymous says:

def. a glitch. No problem on my end. Wish I could help though

  17. pcviii03 says:

Hello Mitch, I do get your posts, and replies.
    Pete
    pcviii03@gmail.com
    kingdomthoughtsministries.wordpress.com

I have not had any trouble with my post.

  18. clcouch123 says:

Hi, I’m really sorry to hear about the severe problems you’ve been having. The problems I’ve noticed lately with my blog are not being ablt to use the “Like” feature (as you’ve noted for yourself) and now the tag feature on the blog isn’t working right. I lost connections to Instagram and Pinterest and such, leaving only X and Facebook (glad to have those). Also, in Verse at least, the indenting feature doesn’t work. Overall, I think your situation is certainly direr.

  19. Anonymous says:

Are these “mere” glitches OR are the icy, ideological winds of change gusting thru our blogging community? Might the WP small-g gods, instead, be emulating Twitter / “X” by seeking / prioritizing the more “profitable”, antisocial, vile, violent and divisive content? Perhaps even making nonpersons outta bloggers, such as you, who’d never want any part of that ugly scene.

Being “Unable to Comment on a blog with a comment box” (whilst using my linked screen name) (btw, CommonSenseTom) is precisely the problem you and I were discussing just scant weeks ago.

I do hope your WP woes are resolvable, but, if not, you must seek / locate a new, far more sociable, neighborly network. If that’s the outcome, lemme know and, in a heartbeat, I’ll become a new/old subscriber.

  20. boromax says:

That’s crazy!!! I have not had any of the problems you list in your post. The strangest thing I have had lately is an inability to add tags to my entries before I publish them (or after, of course, for that matter).
I sure hope and pray you get this cleared up soon!!! ~Ed.

  21. Caroll says:

Wish I could be of more help with your maddening problem but as far as I can see, I am able to like and comment and receive your posts daily through email and I get notified when someone likes or comments on one of my comments. Best of luck!

  22. Phil Strawn says:

WordPress has it’s problems. My WP email has never worked, and my follow or subscribe buttons are glitchy. It’s still the best platform our there.

  23. Numbers 2 & 4 on your list.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever had a ‘like’, from you, or if so, very few. I don’t know if that’s because you don’t like, or they are not coming through.
I’m only replying, because that maybe why subscriptions have dropped 🤔

    • mitchteemley says:

Hi Sara. I just visited your site and saw several posts, including your home page, that I’ve liked (I do indeed like your work). Are you unable to see them? Or were you, perhaps, not notified when I clicked the Like button?

      • Hi, Mitch…I’m not receiving anything…I get notifications when you post. But I’m not being notified when you respond to my posts!
        If that makes sense!
I’m just wandering if bloggers are not receiving your likes/comments…maybe that’s why people are dropping from your site. 🧐

        • mitchteemley says:

I suspect you’re right, Sara, but unfortunately can’t seem to get WordPress to look into it. Would you mind giving me your email address? (If you prefer, you can send it to me at mitchteemley@gmail.com ) I’ll add your “no likes” issue to the list of problems WordPress is asking about. Thanks, my friend!

          • No problem…
            sarapayne03@outlook.com
I had a problem with someone stealing one of my paintings from one of my blog posts. WP said it would cost me 299 dollars to have it removed from the thief’s site!😱. I had to fight to get it removed with no cost to myself!
So, anything to help with WP issues.

  24. pkadams says:

    Probably a Google thing 😕

  25. My wife was dropped from my superfacts.com blog a few days ago and she certainly did not do that herself.

    • My comment above was pretty brief but what I meant is that there’s been a lot of glitches lately. My subscription issues are not as large as yours but I’ve seen weird things happening such as people I personally know being dropped without themselves doing it. Also, I could not add keywords to my latest post. I had to write them out in notepad and copy and paste them quickly because WP would not accept them unless I typed/copied them in under one second. It was really weird. So I believe there are WP issues.

  26. Erika says:

Oh, it can be such a pain. The only thing I have experienced too of the things you mentioned is “Being automatically “unsubscribed” from a site”. But this is long ago, maybe even years.

  27. RasmaSandra says:

Are you sure there are not ugly, tiny gremlins at work? Lately I have had no problems or should I say I seem to have not problems but will be on full alert from now on, Best of luck to you,

  28. I’m also having problems with WP lately, but not as serious as yours. Some followers are getting deleted, but not by their own will, many comments are being spammed, even in the middle of an ongoing conversation, and lately I can’t add tags to my posts.

  29. Badfinger (Max) says:

Yes…I’ve lost subscribers…not in the zip code that you are but I have noticed I will be at a number and two weeks later it’s less! Even after adding. They only thing I could think of is they are purging people who have not signed on in years…something isn’t the same…and google must have changed their algorithm…I get more from google searches than I do from WP…that number has been dropping as well.

  30. I’m sorry you’re having technical issues. That said, I do get email notifications of your new posts, but the “like” button is no longer available in the notification. It IS, however, available on the actual post on the site. I haven’t checked my following, such as it is, but I’ll go look at the numbers and see if any of the same symptoms exist. All the best to you and I hope you get to the bottom of what’s going on.

  31. I’ve had some issues with not receiving blog post notifications and being automatically unsubscribed. I’ve never had an issue with your site. I’m wondering if Jetpack’s Askimet anti-spam has anything to do with your problem.

  32. Pam Webb says:

Goodness—you are one of the most prolific bloggers I know and you usually have anywhere from 30-70 response comments. And your puns are pretty amazing😉

  33. rwfrohlich says:

My tiny blog has no problems. I get your notices and am able to read your posts, like, and comment. Would hate to see you disappear.

  34. rwfrohlich says:

I use the Jetpack app on my iPad and Safari on my laptop.

  35. I have experienced a decline in activity, notwithstanding that I post daily. I know many followers are sometimes finding it difficult to like posts and the same happens to me on other blogs.

  36. Sue Ann (Suna) Kendall says:

I’ve lost a few in the past month, but probably because I mentioned politics recently. I only have 1160 subs, though.

  37. I get your posts and can make comments.

  38. Nancy Ruegg says:

I can’t imagine the frustration of losing 100 followers per month!! Does WordPress keep a record of those who unfollow? I don’t think the Subscribers list provided with our blog-stats includes that information. Un-subscribers just drop off the list, I’m guessing. If they can provide those web addresses, you’d be able to contact at least some of them for follow-up. The glitch makes no sense; WordPress ought to do what THEY can to help you determine where the problem lies.

    • mitchteemley says:

Hi Nancy. No, WordPress doesn’t provide information about unfollows. If anyone wants to unsubscribe, I’m fine with that. Sadly, though, that’s really not what this is about.

      • Nancy Ruegg says:

Oops! I didn’t make myself clear. Let me try again! What I meant was, if you knew who had supposedly unsubscribed, you could contact them and ask them to notify you if they had NOT taken that action. With their responses in hand (“I’ve been dropped from Mitch’s subscriber list without ever having chosen to do so!”), you’d have the proof you need that something strange is going on with WordPress or Jetpack.

        • mitchteemley says:

Unfortunately, when people are automatically unsubscribed they’re not notified, and they rarely discover it on their own. I visit bloggers who like or comment on my posts, but if they’ve been unsubscribed they stop visiting me and I never know what happened. Occasionally, I spot them on another person’s blog site, and use that to renew contact, but that’s pretty rare.

          • Nancy Ruegg says:

Such a messy dilemma! God, we need a miracle here–perhaps a WordPress Happiness Engineer who enjoys solving mysteries and will really check into what’s going on!

            • mitchteemley says:

Amen. And thanks, Nancy! Ariel, the happiness engineer who’s looking into this issue is actually reading people’s comments on this post, btw–and encouraging first step.

  39. Anonymous says:

Sorry for your dilemma Mich. I have not observed this problem with my blog so far. My biggest issue with Word Press is lack of human contact sites when I do have issues to complain about.

  40. Carol Baldwin says:

I haven’t had any of these problems. So sorry that you have!

  41. I haven’t received email notification for new blog posts in well over a year. I finally gave up and started using the Reader. I’ve experienced most of the problems you’ve listed, although not on your blog. Do you think the purging of bots might have anything to do with your dropping numbers?

  42. Super weird. I don’t have any idea – I get your posts and haven’t had any trouble. I have practically given up writing my own posts though!

  43. Sheree says:

My goodness, that’s shocking. I’ve not had any issues with your site.

  44. Uncoffined says:

Ok, problems I’ve had/have are as below

    -unable to ‘like’ someones post
-I wanted to unsubscribe from a blog, but it wouldn’t work with Jetpack (andriod). It never showed up in the subscription list on Andriod, but it did on a Windows computer
-I’m still scribed to a blog, but I never see their posts in reader
-I was using the ‘Baskerville 2’ theme for a while, but had lots of glitchy issues.

I’m too small to bother about numbers

  45. C.A. Post says:

Must be nice to be able to LOSE 100 subscribers a month!😂

    • mitchteemley says:

Not when it means losing contact with bloggers like you who I consider friends, C.A.

      • C.A. Post says:

What I find interesting is blogs I’ve never heard of showing up in my feed!🤨
I suspect they see my email on my homepage and think I might enjoy their blog. Some are okay, but occasionally I unsubscribe; otherwise I’d be reading blogs all day! I’ve never had to complain about anyone repeatedly subscribing me, which I guess you can do if you don’t like their blog.🤠

  46. Hi Mitch, weirdly, despite me being way too busy for my blog (I’ve not updated for a couple of years!) I seem to have a fair amount of traffic this year compared to previous (like, 50 or 60 views per month over an expected 3 to 5, so still nothing massive!) – I wonder if that’s the algorithm trying to mix things up? (I do link to the site if I’m asked to provide a web site, but it doesn’t usually cause an uptick like I’m seeing over the last few months???) Sorry I can’t help more than that!

  47. Keep on fighting the good fight Mitch. Yes, I’ve been:
—Unable to Like a blog (i.e. Like button not loading).
—Have Not received blog post notifications.
—Have not received notifications about likes or replies to your comments
—Have been automatically “unsubscribed” from a site.
Most of these, Ive only noticed after I wondered why I haven’t heard from certain bloggers.

Come on WordPress. Do better. Trust your clients, bloggers who want you to do well!

  48. Michele Lee says:

Sorry to read you’re having glitchy WP issues. A while back the like button was being glitchy and though not recently, I’ve heard from others about being unsubscribed and have seen it a time or two myself. Thank you for being an early reader with my blog. I am grateful and hope you’re able to find resolution soon.

  49. Really awful….sorry

  50. ellie894 says:

Yes! It’s happened to me too! Where should I send my info?

  51. These issues suggest there’s a technical glitch or system change on WordPress that’s affecting your blog’s growth and engagement.
You may contact WordPress support with detailed documentation of the issues, including screenshots and examples from other bloggers. Test your blog’s functionality by checking the Subscribe button, comments, Likes, and notifications. Engage your community directly by asking readers to re-subscribe and consider using email newsletters to stay in touch. Make sure your plugins are updated, promote your posts on social media, and track analytics closely to monitor changes. Connecting with other bloggers in forums for insights and support could also help you address the problem more effectively.

    • mitchteemley says:

I’ll try your suggestions, John. It doesn’t look like WordPress will take any action. They’re asking for non-existent proof: like a complete list of people who’ve been unsubscribed–which is pretty disingenuous, since they know no such list exists.

  52. I’m commenting, so I guess I’m still here. 🙂 I usually get some comments on my posts, but I don’t know how I would know if there are some I’m not getting…
I have never been notified of losing followers, although there are people I heard from a lot in the past that I haven’t heard from. Do you have to check your number of followers regularly, or do they let you know you’re losing some?

    • mitchteemley says:

WordPress doesn’t notify you of unsubscribes. But if you go to Stats (in the pull-down Dashboard on the left), then select Subscribers, you’ll find of list of subscribers, as well as your current number of subscribers, plus charts showing your increase (or possibly decrease). If you’ve gained, say, 10 new subscribers, but your current total has only increased by 6, then you’ve lost 4 subscribers.

  53. Re-Farmer says:

I have not seen problems with your blog specifically, though sometimes I have to hit the “log in” button to post (like I had to, just now) under my ID, rather than as “anonymous”; a problem I’ve had on other blogs every now and then.

I have heard from many who are having similar problems. One blogger I follow – a Christian author – hadn’t been showing up in my notifications for a while. Knowing there were health issues involved, I went looking for his site. Not only did I discover that I had been somehow unsubscribed, but his website disappeared from my history. I haven’t seen updates from him again lately and just went to look. I’m still subscribed, but have had zero notifications of new posts. He, too, has had his blog numbers drop dramatically, just like yours.

With some blogs, I can like their posts, but can’t comment. I try, but WP says I need to log in, but won’t give me the log in option. Others will give me the log in option, but after I do, my comment doesn’t get posted. I’ve also found that if I use Chrome to read the blogs I follow, the like button doesn’t exist. Anywhere, on any blog.

WP has been full of all sorts of technical glitches in their editor, too.

  54. I made a comment on one of your recent posts about the missing “Like” button on your emails. The comment button is there but the Like button disappeared. I have noticed the same thing with another blogger, Phil Perkins Photography. Both buttons are missing in his emails and comments are no longer allowed in the reader for his posts. In his case, it looks like he changed his template. Not all templates include Like buttons. Hope this helps.

  55. Pure Glory says:

I cannot like others’ posts but I can make comments. I have been automatically unsubscribed from other blogs without any input from me. Subscribers have been automatically deleted from my blog without their request. This has been happening for several years.
Now my tag list is restricted to only the most frequent tags.

  56. WordPress has been behaving strangely this year. I’ve noticed issues with other bloggers who are also commenting about this!

  57. joyroses13 says:

Ugh! I’m so sorry. I know others experiencing the same problems. My problem is “likes” disappearing. A blog post will have a certain number of likes and then I get notified that another person liked it and the number of “likes” is lower, which makes no sense! I also don’t get notified about new posts of some blogs I follow. I really hope WP clears up the mess. A lot of problems started when they been trying to implement new changes. A popular saying has come to my mind often in regards to WP: “if is ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” WP didn’t follow that rule, and now its broken.

  58. Anonymous says:

    Hi Mitch,

This is super sucky and Wrong, what is happening to you.
I’m replying right here, right now!
    And it better show up!
Blessings on you — and may Yahweh Yahuwshua (true dual names of the Most High) favor you with quick and complete Restoration of that which has seemingly been lost.

    Very odd.
I am a real person; Matilda Novak.

  60. jeffw5382 says:

I am glad that I’m still seeing your blog

  61. Sorry to hear that, Mitch! Yes, there are a number of problems and I’m afraid to say that not all of them are simply technical but also profit maximization. What do I mean? In my last post, the images appeared very small. I contacted wp and was told it was a CSS problem. They gave me new CSS codes, but they were useless. At the same time, they try to sell you a subscription for automatic CSS adjustment. I already have a business account + yoast and now I have to pay again to have my images load properly? That seems a bit shameless to me. Good luck!

  62. Wow. You earned the follower-ship! WP is being posted about on the regular and your drop in subscribers yet another (major!) glitch. My comments do not go through on several sites but you have responded to the times I’ve commented. I hope this is resolved for you.

  63. anne leueen says:

This is ghastly situation but I have just subscribed to to. Your blog without any problems and I loved your latest post also. So what’s going on???I will let you know if I I don’t receive emails of your posts

  64. Darryl B says:

If I have my VPN on, it will initial “like” a blog… but after a few seconds, it “unlikes” it. I just happened to notice this. Never unsubscribes, though.

  65. Anonymous says:

Unable to Like a blog (i.e. Like button not loading) – Intermittently. I’m not sure why it works sometimes and not others.
Unable to Comment on a blog with a comment box. – I don’t comment enough to know for sure.
Unable to Subscribe to a blog -Yes
Not receiving blog post notifications – Sometimes, although I haven’t had that problem with your blog
Not receiving notifications about likes or replies to your comments – Nope
Being automatically “unsubscribed” from a site – Now that you mention it, yes.

    • mitchteemley says:

Unfortuantely, I don’t know if you’ll receive this reply, my friend, because you’re listed as Anonymous. But if so, please let me know your email and I’ll include in the note to WordPress.

  66. Patty Moore says:

I’ve been unsubscribed from at least one blog that I know of and had to subscribe again. I follow another blog that I can only comment on if I do it on the email notification. I need to look at my stats. Hope you get this figured out.

  67. ScubaHankNYC says:

As others have noted, the Like button on emails seems to have disappeared from your posts. I’m not sure if this is related to updates in the WordPress analytics platform.

  68. grAnnie Roo says:

I’m glad to say your email version comes to my Google account every day – often getting me through otherwise rough days. I live in an area where WIFI and cellular signals are often iffy at best. Most often I must go into town to log on and reply. I definitely appreciated the “like” option on the emails and miss them sorely since I now must log on and “comment” to simply like. Also, I don’t receive any notice when Mitch or anyone else either likes or comments on my comments. There are other issues, but these stand out.
The Power of Story is my all-time favorite blog. Getting better every years, it keeps me (and other fellow writer friends) going. I am ashalowm53@gmail.com, Due to my unreliable signal my WordPress blog (https://roosruse.wordpress.com) is no longer active. It seems to me WordPress should appreciate great bloggers better.

  69. Come and see the violence inherent in the system!!! Seriously, though, I’ve had a few sites glitching occasionally with respect to not allowing likes or comments (the comment failure message is often something like “nonce verification failed” or “please provide hCaptcha”), but that is mostly intermittent and hasn’t happened here. As for subscribing, I run an app called Vienna that goes out and fetches posts via their RSS or Atom feed, so I don’t rely on posts being pushed, I pull them. But of course I am also always logged in to WordPress either as myself or as those animals who are much more popular than I am, so that might help.

  70. Ann Coleman says:

For your blog, the like button no longer appears in your posts in my email, but when I click on the post and go to your site, it does and I’m able to comment. However, there are several blogs I can’t “like” because it says “loading” where the likes should be, and it says that as long as I am on the page. The like button never loads. I just tried to comment on Chef Mimi’s blog and I couldn’t do it. I typed my comment, and then it said “submitting comment” for several minutes until I gave up and clicked off the page. And other times, I have to re log in to Word Press in order to comment on people’s blogs, even though I am logged in and have just commented on another person’s blog two minutes before. Word Press is VERY glitchy these days. I couldn’t tag my most recent post with anything other than “most popular tags.” I would type them in and they would just disappear.
I haven’t noticed that I’m losing subscribers, but I have had several long-term readers tell me that they were “unsubscribed” and once they realize they were missing my posts, they had to resubscribe. It’s probably just a matter of time before I’m kicked off of your blog too. I don’t know what is happening to Word Press, but the blogging community I knew and loved is slowly but surely disappearing. I’m so sorry it’s happening to you too.

  71. I receive blog notifications from you, but I have experienced difficulty in finding like buttons on some blogs, though I can’t state which ones and when. I don’t usually take the time to sort those things out. I am seriously non-techy. I don’t post as often as you do, but my views are way down. I figured it was because I don’t post often and also I can’t figure out how to put the “press here for more” button on my posts anymore, but maybe not. I know my followers who read in their email don’t get counted on views. That’s why I always click on the blog site – to encourage other bloggers that somebody is reading their stuff.

I appreciate that you do that, Bonnie. As far a buttons and arrangement of elements on your blog pages go, yes, WordPress can be pretty daunting. If you google things like “how to get started on WordPress” or “how to set up a WordPress blog,” you should find a lot of step-by-step videos.

  72. Antique Works says:

I’ve prayed for you on this Mitch. I believe God will give you wisdom and reveal what is going on and show you what to do.
When I first read about this I almost instantly had a sense of some kind of antics or practices being exercised.

Is this only happening on your WP site?

  73. Antique Works says:

There have been many times over the course of this year that I logged in properly to WP to write you a comment and upon doing so, the post that I created was posted but it was shown on your blog as anonymous.

Would taking a screenshot of me logging in and then the post no showing me logged in help?

  74. I think its a normal bleep. It would be about 0,75 % sub loss over 2 months filled with election spam clogging peoples feeds and their minds. Some of them chose to cut you out. And the amount of competition content out there is growing all the time, so it would be a miracle if you could maintain steady growth for another 10 years.

    • And no I’m not saying of course that you posted election spam! But when people get a lot more posts about this and that through a short period some may decide to ‘clean up’ their various subscriptions which they would not otherwise have ditched. But Im just speculating of course. I hope you find a satisfying way to deal with this.

  75. Manu says:

So sorry Mitch and it can be frustrating. I don’t seem to have the issues you are having but WP can be glitchy. I hope this can be resolved for you.

  76. Mitch, I’ve experienced the first two: unable to like someone else’s post and/or comment on it–but never on your site!

  77. So sorry to hear about this Mitch. We haven’t experienced any of the problems you mentioned. Hope this helps. And we hope WP will get this sorted out.

  78. K.L. Hale says:

Mitch! I’m so sorry this is happening. I feel fortunate–am I still showing up as a follower? I’ve been gone so much so my “following” is inconsistent and I pray WP didn’t unsubscribe me! Many blessings, Mitch!

  79. Ana Daksina says:

Mitch, here’s an email from another WP host asking what was up with my comments this morning: https://thepoetspublicrecord.wordpress.com/2024/11/24/11-am-and-overnight-hacked/

  80. MadScientist says:

It appears that isn’t the case anymore at least.

  81. Ana Daksina says:

Dear Mitch: Yet another reader has reached out to say that on their screen there is no comment blank for my site. This reader is JoAnne of “Anything is Possible.” The “allow comments” command has been toggled to “on” for my site, on my screen, without interruption.

  82. Ana Daksina says:

Here is a message from a reader indicating that the problems persist:

  83. Ana Daksina says:

    Dear Mitch,

Right now the cover sheet to my site reads 0 visitors this evening. Site administration registers the total of this evening’s views at 432.

  84. Ana Daksina says:

Here’s another reader comment with regard to the WP hacking:

  85. Ana Daksina says:

Problems with my comments have continued for weeks. Often I find days’ worth of comments from a reader suddenly all together in my notifications. Several readers report that there is no comment blank for them to use. I just toggled past a notifications page with half a dozen unread comments on it. When I toggled back to answer them, they had disappeared.

WP: You are being hacked. Hacking can occur through the apps, separately. My nationwide targeting network is involved. If you start your search with the records of my app you will probably be greatly rewarded with footprints.

  86. Ana Daksina says:

Here’s a new one ~ comments which appear in email notifications and turn up blank on the comments page itself:

    https://thepoetspublicrecord.wordpress.com/2024/12/11/311-pm-no-words/

WordPress: You are being hacked through my jetpack app. Start there and you’ll find the root of this problem among my longtime readers.

  87. Mitch,

I have seen some problems as well. My unique number of visitors to my blog was well over 200,000. Suddenly, without any notification, the number dropped below that number. I thought it might be a culling out of bots by WordPress (I would welcome that), but I’m not sure. Still confused.

    • mitchteemley says:

Sorry to hear that, Marty. I think it’s a mix of intentional changes, many of which are to our disadvantage but further WordPress’s agenda, and unintentional glitches due to their constant programming changes.

  88. Ilsa Rey says:

Lately my posts haven’t been showing up on Reader, in addition to noticing I’ve lost nearly 5K subscribers. I wish I knew what was up with this. :/

    • mitchteemley says:

Ilsa, that’s horrible! Have you contacted WordPress about it? I’m curious if you’ve gotten any help, or just the same “everything’s fine” denial I’ve gotten.

  89. Ben Wilder says:

last year something weird definitely happened. Have you discovered anything since this post of yours? I was getting 1,000 views per day (average) and now I’m lucky to have 50 per day. WordPress has changed their entire “posts” layout and there’s no stats menu anymore? WordPress is very close to being really sucky!

    • mitchteemley says:

Hi Ben. Wow, that’s terrible! No, I’ve gotten zero help from WordPress. They’ve denied that any of the issues I’ve brought to them exist. They keep making changes and introducing new glitches in the process, without fixing them. When people point these out, they’re told how things are supposed to work, as if that proves that they are. I do still have a Stats menu in my Dashboard, however (has yours disappeared?), but it too keeps changing and developing new glitches. There are major problems with Likes, Comments, and notifications, as well. Currently, it appears they’re trying to replace the previous Follow system with email-based Subscriptions, and use that as a source of revenue.

      • Ben Wilder says:

Correct, no stats menu on the computer! However I can check stats on the app for now. I wonder if they have an agenda, like they’re about to change ownership or be taken over by some other blog host company? Or go out of business so all these changes are last ditch efforts.

  90. Greg H says:

I have a question, perhaps for the author or the community. I am a new WordPress user. Over many years I tried WP. org and .com. This time I settled in .com I only have a few posts and have plenty of photos to show. When I first posted last week, viewership was high viewing my “First Post”. Now I cannot even find my posts in reader and the one that I did find was “First Post”. Am I missing something?
