Film Exteriors
I’m a filmmaker (writer, director, producer). But as you know, movies took a major hit when a certain pandemic decided to ransack our planet. Like everyone else, my co-producer wife and I were left looking for safe ways to spend our time. So we decided to kill two birds with one stone and take daytrips to potential nearby film sites (our southwest Ohio/northern Kentucky area is rich in imagery). I previously posted photos of buildings and historical sites. Here are some of the exteriors we’ve captured (forests, farms, skylines). What’s the diff? In filmmaking, exteriors are shot at different times and in different ways than interiors: night shots use city lights or stadium-like spotlights; daytime shots used controlled (filtered and bounced) sunlight. Oh, very pretty! I kind of live in a filmmaker’s paradise, which is a neat thing since I have no eye for photography or lighting or anything. The other day my feet were completely invisible in this mist that looked like it rolled right out of a fog machine and then all these dogs started howling so eerily and I had a good laugh.
Where’s my camera?!

Every one of these photographs creates an atmosphere and contains a mystique all its own. The Miami Woods one with your wife sets off that movie star quality she seems to have so naturally. How lovely!

Mitch, these pictures are all so beautiful. There’s a story and/or movie in each one. One weekend, about 10 years ago, my partner and I, on a whim, decided to drive to Winterset, Iowa. I’m a John Wayne junkie and I just needed a weekend trip. We toured his tiny birthplace museum and I took one of my very favorite pics of all time at a covered bridge in Madison County. I’m enthralled by them. Thank you for sharing. I particularly love the capture of peace and beauty on your wife’s face. Stay safe and blessed.

Awesome photos Mitch! As a transplanted Cincinnatian I especially love the shot of the skyline from the Kentucky side of the river. As a photography student at NKU back in the late 70’s I lived in the Medicus warehouse that used to be right at the end of the Roebling Bridge in Covington. We were all art students, had no real kitchen, all shared one questionable bathroom and threw epic parties! That one picture brought back a whole lot of memories for me!

I’m intrigued, imaging what type of movie would have such settings. Of course, the best photo is the one of your lady wife. Beautiful.
Yeah, I love that picture of her. We have multiple projects in development, both modern and historical, but nothing slated for production yet.
