Film Exteriors
I’m a filmmaker (writer, director, producer). But as you know, movies took a major hit when a certain pandemic decided to ransack our planet. Like everyone else, my co-producer wife and I were left looking for safe ways to spend our time. So we decided to kill two birds with one stone and take daytrips to potential nearby film sites (our southwest Ohio/northern Kentucky area is rich in imagery). I previously posted photos of buildings and historical sites. Here are some of the exteriors we’ve captured (forests, farms, skylines). What’s the diff? In filmmaking, exteriors are shot at different times and in different ways than interiors: night shots use city lights or stadium-like spotlights; daytime shots used controlled (filtered and bounced) sunlight. More to come!

Oh, very pretty! I kind of live in a filmmaker’s paradise, which is a neat thing since I have no eye for photography or lighting or anything. The other day my feet were completely invisible in this mist that looked like it rolled right out of a fog machine and then all these dogs started howling so eerily and I had a good laugh.
Where’s my camera?!
I can only imagine ðŸ¤
Every one of these photographs creates an atmosphere and contains a mystique all its own. The Miami Woods one with your wife sets off that movie star quality she seems to have so naturally. How lovely!
Aw, thank you, Dora.
You have a great “eye” for these shots, good luck on picking locations..
Thanks, Bob!
Fantastic clicks!
Thank you!
There must be an interesting story behind that drilling rig truck.
Hi Mitch,
Beautiful and wonderful images. The Lord bless your next steps on your next film! It’s the planning stage!
In Christ,
Gary
Thanks, Gary.
I hear you. We have blogging, podcasting, and writing to keep producing but lots of prayer and planning right now.
Very nice photos. Love pretty pictures. I do that as well when not in filmmaking mode…
Thank you.
Beautiful bridge! It reminds me of a movie “The Bridges of Madison County”.
Mitch, these pictures are all so beautiful. There’s a story and/or movie in each one. One weekend, about 10 years ago, my partner and I, on a whim, decided to drive to Winterset, Iowa. I’m a John Wayne junkie and I just needed a weekend trip. We toured his tiny birthplace museum and I took one of my very favorite pics of all time at a covered bridge in Madison County. I’m enthralled by them. Thank you for sharing. I particularly love the capture of peace and beauty on your wife’s face. Stay safe and blessed.
Thank you, Karla, you too.
And, yes, I’m definitely a fan of covered bridges.
Awesome photos Mitch! As a transplanted Cincinnatian I especially love the shot of the skyline from the Kentucky side of the river. As a photography student at NKU back in the late 70’s I lived in the Medicus warehouse that used to be right at the end of the Roebling Bridge in Covington. We were all art students, had no real kitchen, all shared one questionable bathroom and threw epic parties! That one picture brought back a whole lot of memories for me!
;>)
I see a mountain of movies emerging in your future. Continued success to you.
Hey there Mitch,
Let me know when you’re filming near Lancaster. I would like to be part of your next film. Have a great day. Jerry
Lots of beautiful scenes, rural and urban!
Beautiful pix and incredibly shot. Each one has its own story to tell, doesn’t it?
It does indeed, Russ. Thanks!
My favorite is that tree, watching carefully his environs with that over-sized eye! I think there might be a story there . . . take it away Storyteller Mitch!
Yeah, I loved that “eye” the moment I saw it. A Stephen King story in the making?
Oh wow these are gorgeous. Love the first one and the wine vineyard! 🙂
Thanks, M.B.!
Beautiful shots.
I’m intrigued, imaging what type of movie would have such settings. Of course, the best photo is the one of your lady wife. Beautiful.
Yeah, I love that picture of her. We have multiple projects in development, both modern and historical, but nothing slated for production yet.
I was wondering about that! My thought was, those potential settings couldn’t be for the same movie, could they?
That was a fun tour, thank you.
They’re all beautiful. I plan to be a film maker too so Im really looking forward to more.
Really? Rock on, Chioma!
Loved the photo walk. Always remember “Nothing is too hard for God.” Where there is His will, there is His way. Stay encouraged my friend. Blessings and Peace.
Thank you, and all of the above to you as well, Claudia!
Wow, these are amazing photos and bring different feelings when you look at them. I absolutely loved the Shaker Village with that lantern. Fantastic.
That’s one of my favorites as well.
