To honor my country’s silliest holiday (Groundhog Day), I’ve gathered this collection of odd, wildly inventive (see Body Painting Festivals), whimsical (see Mike the Headless Chicken Festival), and in some cases surprisingly beautiful traditions. Enjoy!

I have to say Mitch that some of those pictures are really bizarre and unusual yet so unique. Very interesting to say the least. God bless you and your family and have a great weekend!
You too, Cora!
Thank you 😊
I love this collection of unusual pictures.
You are truly fascinated. You could take a bit of your time to checkout my latest article on my website andromeda.p2.blog. it will leave you think more about life and purpose for life.
These are strange images, but to be kind I’ll describe them as extraordinary. 🙂
OK, that was weird.
The human macaw was really something – what dedication and meticulous effort of the art, all for the one moment of the pose
Yes!
I started thinking – no, this was likely done with a photoshop process, but I’d really like to believe the guy was really painted and posed
He really is. Body painting has a huge following with major competitions worldwide. Not all are illusionary like this one, but those that are are remarkably convincing.
Yay thanks.. I really like that other one too, the giraffe lady. I love it that people do this
Body painting and ice/snow festivals are very cool (no pun intended). But how does someone not go to the bathroom for THREE DAYS???
Yep, and I’m thinking it kinda puts a damper (pun intended) on the honeymoon.
All I can say is, “WHY?”
I think many of these are a case of “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.” Harumph.
;>)
Crazy indeed, some downright scary.
I never realized Groundhog Day was celebrated on this level. Interesting!!!
If I had longer hair, I’d join the hair freezing contest.
Favourite retirement saying in Australia: “Every day is a Sunday” – kind of like ground hog day?
;>)
Weird!
Wish I’d known about the Day of Silence celebration in Bali when our kids were young. Might have had to bribe them to get them to “celebrate” though! / The person painted and posed like a macaw is AMAZING!! I hope the artist won first prize!
;>)
Weird indeed! I have read about the baby jumping festival, but none of the others. The hair freezing contest would be quite a challenge for me as, first of all I hate being cold, and secondly, my hair is down to just above my knees. It would be awfully heavy and hard to hold my head up I think, 😮
Wow, I had no idea, Diane!
I like Garlic so I would definitely try the Ice-Cream but what’s with the Worm Pizza? That was disgusting.
