Everything You Never Needed to Know About Me

Getting Ready to Go to the Prom” (my first lead role in a movie), shot by the illustrious Kathy’s Mom.

Here’s everything you never needed to know about me: In my early blogging days, when I still posted by Pony Express, I regularly responded to Blogger Award invitations. I don’t do those anymore, preferring nowadays to cheer on new bloggers. However, I’m embroiled in the upcoming release of two new books. So here are my “tell us about yourself” responses to one of those early Blogger Awards. Because, of course, everyone wants to know everything there is to know about me, right? … Right? … (Cue crickets.)

  • My name, according to one source, means “little loaf of bread.”
  • I’m an only child and founder of The International Association for Only Children Who Talk Nonstop About Themselves.
  • I have ADHD and am also the founder of People With ADHD United to Hey What’s That Over There?
  • I’m a writer, filmmaker, actor, composer; I’ve even been a dancer (briefly). My high school career counselor looked at my SATs and said, “Go into any of the arts–just stay away from math.”
  • I’ve made a living as a paperboy, musician, actor, mime, comedian, teacher, preacher, writer, encyclopedia salesman, and filmmaker. And had some degree of success in all of them, except encyclopedia sales.
  • My childhood paper route remains the longest job I’ve ever had.
  • I’ve never been a pipe fitter or a gigolo.
  • My rock group The Daily Planet once beat Steven Seagal‘s group in a high school battle of the bands. Take that, Steven. Hi-yah!
  • I once visited my uncle Frank, a cinematographer at Disney Studios, while he was shooting a movie called Tron, and thought, “Hmm, computer animation? That might just work.”
  • I used to go by the nickname “Og,” and called my first apartment Og Hollow, until a Swedish guy asked me why I’d named it “Eye Socket.” Og Hollow is now my music publishing name (Eye Socket was already taken).
  • Question: What do you want to improve about your blog? Answer: Me.
  • This space for rent.

I like that you’ve been so many different things. I’ve only been a couple things in my life. So much I missed trying because of fear and no encouragement or support.

  7. You are very witty, that’s for sure and modestly humble.
Your accomplishments are amazing. I love reading your work. You make it seem so easily done. Thank you 🙏 for sharing 👏👏👏👏

  8. Just a head’s up: I heard Steven is checking with his lawyers about using his band’s name without authorization.😉

  9. Bookstooge says:

“My name, according to one source, means “little loaf of bread.”

Does that mean we can call you Loafy now?

  10. This is classic Mitch — self‑deprecating, quick‑witted, and somehow both sincere and ridiculous at the same time. I love how this “tell us about yourself” list turns into a tour through a life lived with curiosity and creativity: paperboy, musician, actor, mime, preacher, writer, filmmaker… and absolutely not a pipe fitter or gigolo. The ADHD jokes, the “Og Hollow” saga, and the battle‑of‑the‑bands victory over Steven Seagal’s group are just icing on the cake.

What stands out most is how effortlessly you blend humor with genuine storytelling. Even the throwaway lines — the SAT counselor’s advice, the Tron set visit, the encyclopedia sales flop — feel like little windows into the way you see the world: with wonder, mischief, and a willingness to laugh at himself.

It’s fun, it’s warm, and it’s exactly the kind of post that reminds me why people keep reading you. A delightful peek behind the curtain.
