Compassion

Presentation1

“Compassion asks us to go where it hurts, to enter into the places of pain, to share in brokenness, fear, confusion, and anguish. Compassion challenges us to cry out with those in misery, to mourn with those who are lonely, to weep with those in tears. Compassion requires us to be weak with the weak, vulnerable with the vulnerable, and powerless with the powerless.

Compassion means full immersion

in the condition of being human.”

~Henri Nouwen

  3. There’s a lot of compassion being demonstrated in and around Greenfield, Iowa, this week. Much of the small town (population 2000) was flattened by a tornado, four lives lost. (Just an hour SW of us.)

  4. What a befitting illustration of compassion so unique.
    Thank you.

I love this quote, Mitch. The world needs more compassion, especially during these trying times.

  7. I love that statue! Where is it located? I’m glad you blogged about compassion today, Mitch. I was laughing to myself this morning because I often help people every day, and today I helped a little boy who had fallen off his bicycle with no parent around. I call this kind of activity my “daily rescue.” My daily rescue feels good to the person I helped and even better to me. I smile and look up and say – “I’m following Your footsteps.” I was wondering what to blog about this week. I think I will blog about that. Thank you for the inspiration, once again – Mitch!

  8. Beautiful! More challenging when I am angry, hungry, tired, or stressed, but always worth it. Thank you for the reminder, Mitch!

Everything about this is beautiful. God, may compassion create better conditions for us all. The quote and stunning sculpture pair perfectly with the truth in Romans! Many blessings, dear friend.

  10. Powerful quote and equally powerful statue. Thanks for sharing, Mitch. 🙂

Wonderful quote. Compassion is sorely needed in our world today…though, sadly, in the history of man, there’s never been enough.
And I agree with others about the accompanying image—quite moving.
