Beyond the Heavens

Beyond the Heavens

Like all beings with souls, I have been perpetually in awe of nature. And yet I’ve always yearned for something more. Even before I believed, I looked for what was “behind” the night sky. I sensed that the spiral precision of leaves, the engraver’s perfection of snow flakes, the sublime splattering of the galaxies were never meant to be ends in themselves, but to point us past them, to awaken a latent love for the One who is “beyond the heavens.”

  1. Nature is amazing I completely agree Mitch. The heavens declare His handy work.
    Psalms 19:1

  2. But you believed…how could you say before you believed? There is more in the universe and more aspects to the spiritual world than just the one path. … and that is why there is constant strife. All is sacred and there are those who would follow one and only one path and any one wanting to follow a different path is seen as unacceptable. There are those who accept but more that do not. …and that’s why life is hard.

Jean, by “before I believed” I mean before I believed in God. I was previously an atheist.

      • Interesting, you say you were an atheist, yet you go on about believing … before you believed in what you believed, you believed in a higher power… So, did you go from atheist to Wiccan or Buddhist or other and did you see it as a trade up? Sorry, not being rude, really confused and wondering.

Not sure I know what you mean by “before you believed in what you believed,” Jean. When I was an atheist I did not believe in any kind of higher power. My progression from there was, first, toward agnosticism, and then toward a vague form of pantheism (the universe as God). I studied other religions, but never adhered to any. It was learning about Jesus’ teachings and character that caused me to become a Jesus follower.

        • So, you just moved around the scale. I guess that answers my question. Glad you found something that fits for you. I saw the reality of what was being done in that name…and found that I could not reconcile. Was unhappy with organized religion. But no matter, I’m pretty much happy with what I am. I have my complications, but I also have a freedom from some of the intolerance things that are sometimes perpetuated. So, it all works out. I’m happy, organized religion isn’t because I’m not a follower nor am I a leader, the universe is a magical place and the world can be beautiful…even if it can also be horrific so it balances out I guess. Best wishes. Be happy.

I spent some of my early teen years playing “Wack a mole” with faith in God. For me it was an ignorant/arrogant way to live for myself. Watching natures complex interplay pushes my “you are very small” button

  17. LOVE this! Yes, I believe the Lord made all of those glorious things to display His glory and, as you put it, “to point us past them, to awaken a latent love for the One who is ‘beyond the heavens.’”
