All That Matters

Fatherswingingdaughterinplay_0“Love is a perpetual motion machine, the only one that has ever been invented. The more you use it, the more it produces.” ~From the in-the-works novel Over-the-Rhine.

This is beautiful. Thank you for this, Mitch.

That is perfect!! I wrote about love yesterday. It was quite a labor…LOL! Now I have something even more to consider and add to what I believe of love. I thought of a frame to work within and around, and now I see what will make it work. Thanks so much, Mitch. This is perfect!

  3. Bob martin Martin says:

The term “perpetual motion” refers to the fact that the object never quits. It does not refers to the results of the motion. I agree with your statement about love producing love, but that is not perpetual motion.

Love is not only a noun, Bob. It’s also–and, I would argue, primarily–a verb, and a present participle at that (i.e. an ongoing verb ;>). The real point of the metaphor, however, is simply that love, real love at any rate, always engenders more love. Happy Father’s Day!

I believe both perspective between Mitch and Bob are, indeed active in the world as demonstrated by for real perspective in presence and assumed to be active in real ways, and Mitch brings up a perspective, I think of a more (LOL) active perception of love as can move, animate more as it moves though those willing to keep it going. The more it’s shared, the more it grows exponentially with never ending and always expanding as least resistance gives way…that’s how I read it to mean, but there is also resistance in the world. Will it yield to love?

  4. Vernon says:

Love is an excellent way to build bridges and break down barriers simultaneously.

  5. Zeeshan Amin says:

A scientific quote on love 👍

  6. Jennie says:

    Amen!

  7. smzang says:

I love the post! (as an aside: I think it is truly beautiful to see a discussion about love
    instead of war. )

  8. Ann Coleman says:

I love that quote! And it is so very true…

  9. gpavants says:

    Hi Mitch,

So true. That’s a great way to put it.

    In Christ,

    Gary

  10. Mary Jane says:

My husband (an engineer) is always embarrassed when I say the the water cycle is proof of perpetual motion. He argues that the sun’s energy will also end, which means that it cancels out perpetual motion. I say, what’s a few thousand year between friends? Anyway, thanks to your beautiful, true quote, I will change my perpetual motion argument to love is proof of perpetual motion. Don’t think it will fly in engineering circles, (I’ll probably only receive a “aaaaahhhhh, so sweet”) but will definitely try 😉
