Thought for the Week
Humans are, almost by definition, amateurs. Think about it: Just when you start to get a handle on being a toddler, you become a kid. And just when you’re halfway proficient at being a kid, you turn into a teenager. And then, totally unprepared, you turn into an adult, and eventually (God save us) a parent! Face it. We’re behind the curve from start to finish.
That’s why we have to forgive ourselves — and each other — over and over again. Because none of us really knows what we’re doing. None of us.
But there is Someone who does, someone who has literally had forever to figure this whole being human thing out. So here’s a thought: What if we were to stop pretending we knew what we were doing, admit we were amateurs, and ask our Creator to be our Coach? After all, it’s not like he hasn’t offered.
“Oh, you who kill the prophets and stone the ones I send to you…how often I have longed to gather you as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!” ~Matthew 23:37
“Just as a father has compassion on his children, so our Creator has compassion on those who put their trust in him. For God alone understands how we are made.”
~Psalm 103:13-14

Good advice, Mitch for parenting, marriage, community, life itself!
Excellent suggestion! Jack of some trades, master of nothing…
This came at a very good time for me, Mitch. In my exuberance I made an impulsive (amateur)decision yesterday and am feeling the fall out. No worries, only my pride is hurt. Great thoughts, here! Thank you, Pastor Mitch. (No joke)😊
God’s timing, eh, David?
Indeed, Mitch. Indeed.❤️
left off verse 11
behind the curve, great story, be like the prophets then, and become aware of the changes and why things happen to remind us, thanks Mitch
My pleasure, BW (or is it Paddy?).
His mighty arm and outstreached hand will rescue us from oursleves if we do not doubt He can and will do these things. It’s pretty good. Jack Gator
The worst is when you think you’ve done a pretty good job raising your 5 kids and then they tell you that none of what you remember ever happened.
;>)
That’s me, only I had six kids. Now they are trying to “improve” on parenting skills as they begin to have their own children. 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
I just tell myself I got my son through the early years and beyond. At 37, he’s old enough to make his own choice, his mistakes are his own.
True what you said, Mitch…. we may not know what we are doing sometimes but He promises that He is with us and things will go well. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
Exactly.
P.S. Just realized I don’t know your name.
Cora
Please pray for my friend Bill : Mitch he’s in pain with his feet. Thanks in advance.
Praying, Cora.
jeremiah 29:13
matthew 12:48 great is thy lord
psalm 103:11 hide the word in your heart
psalm 103:16 god likes you he gave his son
you missed psalm 103:11
I often think of that verse when observing the hens with the chicks . If God is really like a mother hen, he’s very protective.
mitch needs 103:11 with 13
Any chance no kids were dropped in the making of this post?
Let’s hope not, Pam. At least it looks like they were on a beach with nice soft sand.
Soft sand? Not in my experience. I’m counting on fast hands🫣
;>)
correct if matthew has a 12:48 & psalms 103:11 we know to hide the words & not sin
Excellent point – we ARE all amateurs. Thanks for this inspiring and encouraging post.
My pleasure.
So, so true. And the more you think you know, the less you know. Thanks, Mitch.
Exactly, Nancy. Maybe that was why Socrates said the only thing that made him wiser than anyone else was that he knew he knew nothing.
Love this thought for the week/weak humans. Oh how weekly weak we are.🤣
you double tag the colon & left off verse 11
I’m so glad y’all are as lost as me…
;>) “
Miseryignorance loves company?”I mean… yeah? 😀
not adding psalm 103:11 where they gave his angels to hide the word & not sin against thee
matthew 12:48 o 48:12
So true 😌😌😌
psalm 103:11 video they didn’t add verse 13
That’s such a good point. I’m a parent of two children. Just when you think you’re getting the hang of parenting and figuring out some strategies that work, they change, and it gets more difficult. One of mine is almost a teenager, and that’s becoming a challenge. I am definitely asking God for advice, because I know I am no expert at this.
Exactly, and thank you, my friend.
