Warning: Prayer Is Dangerous!

I asked God for advice, and he said, “OK. Change.”

I replied, “No, no, there you go again misunderstanding my requests!”

Warning:

If you ask God for guidance, he’s going to tell you to change.

This is why prayer is so unpopular.

  1. Be careful what you ask God for. You just might get it.

  2. All prayers are answered instantly. We can ask for the eyes to see it.

  3. Or, as the ACA Serenity Prayer puts it: “Higher Power, grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know that one is me”.

  4. Todd R says:

    Reminds me of Luke 12:13-15

    Change is challenging.

  6. Mags Win says:

I learned long ago to be careful what to pray for. The Lord gives us what we ask for and we just might not like what it requires of us.

    Simple, yet profound

    Only if you listen. 🙂

Well said, in humor but so true

  10. Mitch Teemley, of course, He will tell you to change. :-). For any desire to be accomplished when tried and failed, when you approach a Higher power, who sees the future before us, WILL tell you to change your course of action.

NOW, our actions undertaken to make the changes necessary MUST aline with goodness toward others. For every action has its consequences.

Hope to see you after this!

  11. I’ve heard that you shouldn’t pray for patience either, because the result will often create a problem you will have to solve which requires patience.

    So true! Thank you.

This made me laugh out loud! This is so true. This morning in church our pastor admonished us that we needed to be in prayer every single day. If we were going to be fit to go out into this world and do God’s will. This post of yours just complimented that message so very well. Thank you! ✨🙏✨🙏

  14. Change: the name of the game, even at 88!

  15. It’s as simple as that!

  16. emosobriety says:

God’s will is different from our desires.

  17. rkcdlitt says:

When we listen to God; when we accept the change; we grow; we attain unchallengeable wisdom. God’s Wisdom. We are better for it.

Lol…absolutely love this post. It is funny only because the nature of humanity is put the work off on someone else instead doing the work that needs to be done by us. God knows. Thank you for sharing this, Mitch.

  19. Maren says:

    Ouch! and so very true.

  20. Maryanne says:

I have a “manifest journal” and I’m sure to always add the word “effortlessly.” Last year I wanted a new car and I kept writing “new car” in my journal, but it took an accident in the old car to get it Ouch! LOL!!!! Lesson learned — always add the word “effortlessly.” 🙂

  21. Kounselling says:

Just like our inner work. It is a change.

  22. This really makes you think my dear! Always on point ❤️

  23. RasmaSandra says:

I ask for guidance, and when anything good happens, the first thing I do is look up and thank the Lord.

  24. Ann Coleman says:

That’s the truth! We generally just want assurance that what we’re already doing is the right thing…..

  25. I think more people pray or at least have conversation with God than we think… when someone gets hurt or has a crisis God is first on the tongue to escape. Even the people that think they don’t believe call out when they are in need…

  28. Ana Del Mar says:

I couldn’t agree more, Mr. Mitch. I find that scripture shows us that the ‘magic’ to prayer is not having God Bend to our will but rather in God Bringing us to commune with Him and in Him Shaping and Molding us to His Will for our lives.

The greatest example of prayer we ever received was from Jesus Himself in the simple (and sincere) Words and Deeds of “Not my will but Yours Be Done”. Many attach this to their self centered prayers hoping that by paying God meaningless lip service, that He’ll Be Moved To Bless Them in accordance with their sinful self-centered wills. If we can pray this with the utmost sincerity in our hearts, we’ll see something infinitely greater than God ‘Moving Mountains’ or Performing ‘Wonders’, We’ll see God Given us a heart that delights in Him and all of His Ways and Righteousness.

“26 Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances. ” – Ezekiel 36:26-27, NASB95
