My Featured Blogger this week is David Redpath of Highway Bloggery. David is an Australian stream-of-consciousness poet, photographer, artist, traveler, and seeker of truth. There’s a compelling spirit of longing and compassion beneath his acerbic words. “When will the world be set right?” is the question that always seems to loom beneath the surface, and sometimes emerges into full light:
‘God will restore the whole earth
and give it to his messy carbon
based children as an inheritance.’
…he concludes in a more hopeful moment.
Amen, David, amen!

Down to sleep
their souls to keep
vulnerable
innocent and meek
Somewhere
below life’s glitter
pure evil seeps
from a broken gutter
grim trauma to reap
Innocence shattered
beyond all hope
as mothers weep
Watch out now
Take care
Beware
Given enough rope
all things dark
and fearful
… into the deep
Tell me it isn’t so
down below
where the siren sings
a hand pulling strings
Through the madness
I glimpse the enemy
seething
in a hatred burning
for all humanity
The young and the old
the slave and the free
subjects all since the fall
to the vagaries of tyranny
Nothing that’s new
under a blazing sun
only the names
and the bloodied faces
of yesterday’s victims
under the gun
of a frenzied barbarity
Religious divisions
of endless hostility
Knives and bombs
in the hands
of young children
Better a rock
tied to the neck
Preachers of hate
Masters of fear
Lords of War
… all into the deep
Only stardust?
Are we golden?
Lonely
tarnished and broken?
Compassion lacking?
Truly nothing lost
… for good
All things to gain
Rock solid
the holy mindfulness
that keeps me
totally sane
Jesus loves me
Yes, this I know
Absolutely
His grace
his mercy
that loving taste
of heavenly serenity
His presence
surrounding me
Some things seen only
through the eyes
of eternity

A ‘rich’ share. Thank you.

Greatly appreciated, Mitch 🙏
The toddler pictured in my arms is
my grandson, Levi, incase you were
wondering. I didn’t kidnap him 😎
Good to know. ;>) And the pleasure is mine, David.
I enjoy his work!
