Unless It’s True
I don’t know who created the above meme, but I love its irreverent reverence. I mean, I’ve been called a liar from time to time, and never once did it mean, “You’re totally deluded, but you’re still a great moral teacher.” So, let’s be honest:
Jesus’ claims are outrageous (read what he says about himself in the Gospel of John). Unless they’re true. And then, well, OK, they’re still outrageous, but they’re also the most wonderful news we’ll ever hear. Because it means our Creator loves us so much that he chose to personally save us from the most out-of-control, destructive force ever to emerge on our planet. Us.
No way? Yahweh. Here’s what C. S. Lewis concluded:
A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic—on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg—or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse…but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.

I loved C Lewis’ book and where he said You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” Amen to that!!!
🙂
Yahweh! POWERFUL, Mitch! It pairs perfectly with our outrageously omnipotent God!
AMEN!!
I really appreciate C.S. Lewis and his writings.
Not sure where you live, Mitch, but I’m in the USA & exposed to donald trump FAR more than I care to be (daily … almost minute-by-minute … sigh). MY opinion only, but he is the CLASSIC (& on-going) example of a lunatic. I also think he believes he is God, which is very unattractive & annoying.
Jesus, on the other hand, & also my opinion, was kind, never ridiculed others, genuinely helped people (not trying to APPEAR to in the interest of gaining votes), promoted love, acceptance, diversity. He was an advocate for the common good & not for personal gain. There is no comparison between the 2 examples.
If Jesus was a hoax or a lunatic, & I don’t think so (again, my opinion) then that’s who I cast my vote for.
But enough about poached eggs named Trump, Linda. ;>)
Amen to C.S. Lewis.
Some consider the meme as “taking the LORD’s name in vain.” But “LORD” in all English translations is literally “YHWH”, or Yahweh.
Father has a sense of humor or He never would have created the platypus!
As long as Yahweh is referring to HIM, I do not think it disrespectful to see His love with humor mixed in occasionally.😉
He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, hallelujah!
The unsaved may think he was a lunitic however, I’ve got testimonies that prove He is real and is the son of the most high God.
Lewis’s “trilemma” is classic . 🙂👍
It is indeed, Annie.
Well said, with humor.
Yes! AMEN! That has to be one of my favorite C.S. Lewis quotes. Did he nail it? YAHWEH!
Mitch,
He’s Yahweh all the way. No nay to that. In Christ,
Gary

Beliefs are many and each different to others. The Lord and I are on one hand because of my belief and trust in Him but I also feel He adjusts his thoughts and feelings toward how we look at Him, When I am not on my best behavior and know I could do better I can just imagine Him shaking His head and chuckles at His wayward child. I love the song If God were on of us and think that what it says is quite true. If you don’t know the song take a look at the lyrics.
I love “irreverent reverence.”
