There Is No Greater Love

There Is No Greater Love

“Sacrifice…should be done from love…from necessity…it should be done for people who need your strength because they don’t have enough of their own.” ~Veronica Roth

There is no greater love than this. Tomorrow is Memorial Day in my country, a day when we honor those who have given their lives in service to us. It’s a time when we hear and repeat stories of sacrifice, of courage rooted in love, not for self but for others. Why do these stories move us? Because we know instinctively that without such sacrifices, we would have no present. And without the ultimate sacrifice, we would have no future.

“For God so loved the world…”

I always cringe when I hear people say Happy Memorial Day. It’s become a day of picnics and celebration but I wonder if we’ve lost the ability to reflect and memorialize the sacrifice so many have made for us. My son works for One Tribe Foundation ( a veteran support organization). Today and tomorrow they are walking with “Carry the Load” to honor our fallen friends and family. Thank you for the reminder of the sacrifice we should reflect on and honor.

    Amen.

  3. I received a photo early this morning of Daniel Wilson’s grave at the Lorraine American Cemetery in France. Mathieu Carre takes the time to remember the families of Americans who lost a loved one during the war. (I have remembered him and two others in two of my books, with photos of them in one, and in the Memorial Day chapter in the new one.) Danny Wilson is one of the three Wilson brothers lost during WWII. Junior Wilson is buried here in Iowa. Dale Wilson has never been found. Bless Mathieu Carre for remembering one of the brothers.

    Amen. So profound and true.

  5. I hope you have a Happy Memorial Day, Mitch.

Thank you. I am remembering that Memorial Day began with Confederate widows putting flowers on the graves of northern soldiers, buried far from loved ones, and pray that it mean an end to war.
