The Person in the Title

WinterI love Christmas. And with all my heart I love the One whose birth it celebrates. But it wasn’t always so. I grew up in a nonbelieving home. Yes, we called it “Christmas,” but for us it was a secular occasion, a time for family, food, and gift-giving, but not for the Person in the title. Hence, to me, there’s nothing life-changing about the phrase “Merry Christmas!” But there is something life-changing about Christ. So, whatever words I use or hear, it’s my joy at Christmas time–and throughout the year–to show people the Person in the title. You?

“In Him was life, and that life was the light of all humankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

~John 1:4-5

  13. You frequently examine something common from an uncommon angle, Mitch. And, I love it! “Merry Christmas,” is merely a well wishes greeting. The real reason behind the celebration–the birth of Christ–should be the focal point. Thank you, Pastor Mitch. ❤️ 🙏God’s richest blessings to you and yours, and a Happy New Year!

  27. K.L. Hale says:

I grew up a granddaughter of a Baptist preacher. He literally scared the “hell right out of me!” I ran to the altar so I wouldn’t burn up at 8 years old! But it wasn’t until my life took messy turns, my sons left and joined the military, health issues hit, I said goodbye to a career I loved…up to that point, I was a Christian. But in the last 10 years my life shifted and I found utter relief on my path to holiness; letting go of rigid rules that set me up for failure to develop a personal relationship with our Savior. Our Immanuel who NEVER leaves or forsakes us! Our Prince of Peace, Son of Man, Everlasting Father, Almighty God, Wonderful Counselor,…I rejoice in his many names. I’m with you. A belated Merry Christmas to you and your family, dear friend!

  28. A wonderful verse.
