“If (we) hope to produce work that will bear good fruit, we must draw our life from the true source–our living Savior. He is real. He is present. But all too often we reduce him to an abstraction, giving him intellectual assent, but not our hearts” (Michael O’Brien).
One of the great philosopher-theologians of the 20th Century, Karl Barth, got that. He was asked after a lecture at the University of Chicago in 1962 if he could sum up his life’s work in a single sentence. “Yes,” he replied, “Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.”
Take all of me, Lord.

Amen 🙏❤ Great Share
I never thought about it before, but the openings lines of that poem are kind of sad, describing a testimony based only on what you know in your head, the evidence being just what you’ve been told.
That was certainly me for a long time. I’m glad I’ve progressed (and am continuing to progress) to a testimony based on what I’ve actually felt in my heart.
Karl Barth… One of my all-time favorite quotes. Quoted it myself more times than I can remember. Lovin’ your Sunday posts, Mitch! Blessings!!!
And blessings to you, dear friend!
Love Barth’s quote! Thanks for sharing, Mitch. 🙂
I’m president of a local non-profit that is also a science fiction club. For our meeting guest speaker at last night’s meeting I invited the president of a regional astronomy club who holds several master’s degrees in science. She included a slide show & her presentation was primarily about recent sun activity & the resulting emergence of the aurora borealis that was so beautifully visible last weekend in most areas of the US.
She gave us so much information about the sun, its size, its phenomenal activity. One of the things that amazed me was that the sun’s axis … magnetic poles … FLIP every 11 years.. While listening to her it occurred to me that this precision with which the sun responds in no way could be an accident.
This may not be exactly on your point with this post but your post reminded me of last night’s presentation.
God is EVERYWHERE & anyone that doubts that simply needs to look towards the sun.
Amen to that, Linda.
Yes, that sums it up nicely!
