Procrastination: A Nation of Procrastinators

Procrastination

Well, it’s Wednesday. Guess I’d better get started on that project I was gonna finish “by Monday at the latest.”

“You can’t just turn on creativity like a faucet. You have to be in the right mood. What mood is that? Last-minute panic.” ~Bill Watterson

“The thing all writers do best is find ways to avoid writing.” ~Alan Dean Foster

“The slacker craves yet has nothing, but the soul of the diligent is fully satisfied.” ~Proverbs 13:14

“Someday is not a day of the week.” ~Janet Dailey

“Procrastination is like stopping a train that left the station: when we procrastinate, we hold others up.” ~Joseph R. Ferrari

“God has promised forgiveness to your repentance, but He has not promised tomorrow to your procrastination.” ~St. Augustine of Hippo

“Just do it!” ~St. Nike of Sneakerus

“Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone”       ~Pablo Picasso

  8. Erika says:

Actually I am not a procastinator. I want things to be off my plate than pushing them from left to right. But when it comes to writing… it can happen 😅

  9. Dawn Marie says:

It only takes a minute when you wait until the last minute. 😉

  13. This is the most powerful of all the procrastination quotes: “Just do it!” ~St. Nike of Sneakerus. It speaks to my inner most, excuse making, dawdling self. 🙂

I am surprised no one has commented on the size of that HUGE snail on the back of a tortoise! Or else it’s a reeeally tiny tortoise!🤠

  20. Carla says:

I am a terrible procrastinator, but I usually get things done eventually.

  21. Carolyn Page says:

Inspiration is the only way I can work. Otherwise, it’s futile! Nothing is achieved. Or is this my rationale for procrastination? I’ll tell you later! 🙂

  22. I definitely fall into the last-minute panic group, Mitch. When my assignment was due in by midnight Sunday, I’m hitting the send button at 11.59 p.m.

  23. How true!

    To my fellow bloggers:
Sorry for my blogging inactivity these past months. A lot on our plate during this big move from Spring Valley to Oceanside, CA. Now to see who’s still out there.
    Have a wonderful day!

I’ll probably comment on this later.

  25. randydafoe says:

I really meant to read this yesterday. I think I need all the advice I can get on this subject!

  26. One thing that makes procrastination so hard to overcome is that it occasionally pays off. There have been times when I put off doing something I dreaded, and ended up not having to do it after all (such as repulsive required courses that magically stopped being required right before my junior year).

To make matters worse, back in my youth I attended a church that was obsessed with the last days and 100% certain that we were living in them and that Jesus was sure to return at any moment. This made it even easier to postpone distasteful tasks. Why should I read this insufferably tedious textbook and write a stupid term paper on it when Jesus might return just as I was handing it in?

    • mitchteemley says:

Ah, I remember hearing that a lot back during the Jesus momement in the 70s and early 80s. I always responded with Jesus’ words in Luke 19:13, “Occupy until I come!”

  27. Great quotes. I loved St Nike.

  28. CattleCapers says:

All great quotes but the Picasso quote is the one that stuck and is making me think. Thanks.

  29. Just waiting to see how long I can wait to get something started.

  30. Great post, Mitch, I’ve obviously procrastinated on my reading, trying to catch up now. 🤣 Love the Picasso quote!
