It’s the northern half’s most beautiful month, when leaves and sunrises vie to out-blush one another, and clouds and moons stage sunset tableaus. Gloves and mufflers appear, walks demand to be taken, cats demand laps, books demand eyes and windows sighs. September expires of old age, but October dies in youth. So embrace it before it’s gone!

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”

“There is something in October sets the gypsy blood astir: We must rise and follow her,
When from every hill of flame she calls, and calls each vagabond by name.”
~William Bliss
“I wish that every day was Saturday and every month was October.”
~Charmaine J. Forde
October gave a party
The leaves by hundreds came
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples
And leaves of every name
The Sunshine spread a carpet
And everything was grand
Miss Weather led the dancing
Professor Wind the band

“Although I was born in April, I’m quite certain I was not fully awake until October.”
~Peggy Toney Horton

Yes! October daybreaks are also spectacular! My mother memorized that October gave a party poem as a child.
From Leora’s Dexter Stories: October in Iowa is pure bliss as shades of green transform into golds and russets. The soul of autumn, clear blue sky, and crisp dark nights glittered with stars. Sparks of bittersweet and sumac glow along chalky roads. Spikes of cattails line dusty ditches. Goosebumps accompany the autumn aroma of end-of-harvest bonfires.
Wonderful, Joy!
Stunning images 🤗
No need to travel back east as a leaf tourist when I can look out my window.
Me too, Pam. In fact, I’m looking out a beautiful array of fall colors even as I type this.
Gorgeous!
Exquisite! TY for compiling these beauties!
My pleasure., Carol!
These are glorious. I loved the quotes especially that one by William Bliss
The glory of God on display during my favorite season; wow. The Mt. Baker photo brought back good memories; I grew up looking at it out our front window, and then as a young adult, I climbed it. Even though it was July, it started snowing while we were at the summit!
What a view to grow up with, Keith!
Howdy Mitch. How have you been? Your grand tour thru autumn certainly offers up a cornucopia of spectacular imagery; from start to finish. Even so, I cannot help but yearn for the southern half where everything is (or soon will be) greening / warming up (in other words, I’m looking forward to your eventual spring tour). Take care…
I’ve been well, and thank you. May I ask who this is?
Looks like I, CommonSenseTom, have been away too long; btw, that link-less “Anonymous” screen name was not my idea. Any ideas why this loss of identity occurred?
Aha. Hi, Tom. Yes, WordPress has added an ID box to at least some comments; if it’s not filled in, they list the commentor as Anonymous. Go figure.
Looks like we’re speaking of WP discriminatory practices; loss of identity; silenced free speech. Hmm, can’t help but ask why I deserve that? And I also wonder how many others are being shooed away from your enlightening and entertaining site?
I shall forever treasure my memories of the eight years’ worth of conversations we’ve had.
You truly are the “Writer, Filmmaker, Humorist, Thinker-about-stuffer”, who you speak of.
I don’t really want to say this to my very first WP subscriber… but…
Farewell Mitch. It was fun while it lasted.
Signed CommonSenseTom
Slightly modified Simon Sez / Warns…
“And the people bowed and prayed
To the WordPress god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, ‘The words of the prophets are
written on the subway walls; And tenement halls’
And whispered in the sound of silence”
Seriously? Sorry to see you go, old friend.
Very spectacular images. Autumn is the season of colours.
Beautiful pictures Mitch!
I especially like the girl resting up against the tree and the deer.
Have a nice weekend!
You too, Cora!
That was me about the girl and the deer.
Aha!
An awesome collection of autumn images!
Glad you enjoyed it, my new photographer friend.
A joyful autumn to you and yours, Mitch!
Thank you, Michele, you too!
I love Octobers! I was born in October. 💕
Some very wonderful photos, Mitch.
Thanks, Danny. I enjoy curating these gallery posts.
Autumn was the season I missed most of all during our 40-year sojourn in Florida. And even if winter IS straight ahead, fall is still my favorite. (Actually, there’s a lot to be said for winter too!)
Beautiful images! Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure, San.
The fall images are phenomenal and the quotes were delightful. Thanks for the eye candy, Mitch.
Welcome. Don’t forget to brush your teeth, or, um, eyes, Nancy.
🤣
We’ve been having a drought here for the past three plus weeks, but our leaves are still pretty! October is a beautiful month.
Us too, Ann. My faithful hose and I have been playing raincloud for our thirsty plants.
Amazing pics! The beauty of the season! Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure, Peggy!
Amazing colors🧡🍂🍁🏵️🤎
