Instant Memoir

I’d expected to write another My Real Memoir entry this morning. But when I awoke (my favorite way to start the day), our world had been transformed from Cincinnati to Narnia, or (if you’re a GoT fan) the Kingdom of the North. We’d expected a little vanilla frosting like last week’s. But instead we got half a foot of the real stuff, with below-freezing temps and more snow predicted from now through next week!

So stop the presses! Instead of yet another reminiscence from my early life, here’s a microwave reminiscence of the present, along with some hot-off-the-cellphone pics (above). An Instant Memoir, if you will.

Yeah, I know, if you’re from, say, Buffalo or Sapporo, Japan, you’re thinking, “Half a foot? Hah! That ain’t even snow, buddy (or バディ)!” But it’s the most we’ve had show up overnight here in years.

Plus, this SoCal boy is still sort of in awe of the magical stuff! Although I’m not a big fan of the White Witch…

Or those nasty wights.

My favourite part: Mitch the Superhero with the Shovel ^^

Thank you for raising my joy meter, once again, my friend.

Instant Memoir indeed. (the other can wait…)

  3. Keep that white stuff in your neck of the woods, will ya? I’m just not fond of it. 🙂

  4. Haha, we had snow here today too but not as much as you!! Stay safe!

  5. I love snow – except for the wet and cold part, other than that snow is fun! and, yeah, the White Witch, not so much fun.

  6. We had 30+ inches in 93 and ’94, 20 in ’96. Those were the days. Hoping! Enjoy!

  7. Gary Fultz says:

The first snowfall of the season is always enchanting and romantic. But this AZ/SoCal girl was over it after another 9″ fell in Franklin Park on Good Friday my first year in Chicagoland! But then again I was pretty buff by late spring ;-> Layer up guys!

White witch, not withstanding, the snow looks awesome! This Maine girl misses big snowstorms. At the foot of the Rockies, we often only get a few inches, but there is the occasional blizzard and those are scary!!

  12. It is nice and warm here in Austin but we are due for more freezing temps later this week. Love to see the snow.

  13. Epic, just epic!!

  14. Rocky says:

Seems you had an invasion of white rain from all sides! Persist dear friend, persist. You can outlast this invader and vanquish it!

  15. Chris Ciccarelli says:

Enjoy the magical moments because when it melts you will have your wonderful memories..

  16. Wow! It is the land of Narnia.😄
    Great pics.

  17. The first time we looked at the somewhat unimpressive little house in Louisville, there was snow on the ground and a Narnia-type lamppost at the end if the front walk. 😍 … We now live in that little house. 😏(and love it.)

  18. Sheri Dye says:

I see snow and think about how tomorrow’s going to be in the mid 60’s again. Enjoy it, it’s all yours. 😂

How can something so annoying be so beautiful?

  20. I like you posed on your sidewalk the best! Funny!

    Fantastic 😊

So pleasing to the eye and yet can fathom, how tough it is to negotiate them…..bringing chills to my bones sitting here in Kolkata, almost embracing summer!!!

  24. Beautiful!! Bonus if you got to stay home for snow day!! Plus, Narnia!! Woot! 🙌🏻

  25. Moved south 33 years ago to get away from it. We should have gone 3 states (SC) further. 4″S yesterday. Nice Pics Mitch.

  26. Half a foot is over my threshold for using the snow thrower rather than doing the driveway entirely by hand.  In the distant past, it was under my threshold.  Climate change?  😉
