How Big is Your God?

God's Dwelling Place

“Traveling through space and not finding God does not mean that space is empty any more than traveling through my body and not finding me means that I am not here.”

~Dallas Willard

  1. Amen! The title got me excited. He is bigger than everything we can think of and things we can’t even grasp.

  2. Amen.

We always need to remind ourselves of the true power of our Creator, because that is the power by which we can live.

    Thank you for sharing this.

  3. The quote from Isaiah should include books compiled, edited and “canonized” by puny humans. God cannot be contained in any “structure” made by man, including any book. The “holy” books of the world are indeed wonderful sources for understanding the origins of human culture and philosophy, but should not be taken as the pure, unadulterated, inviolable word of a supreme being. We do this at the expense of creating a world of conflicting “religious” cultures. Too often such conflict is physical and violent. One only needs to follow the news to see all the repugnant current examples.

I’m not a syncretist or a universalist, Vernon, but I certainly share your loathing for violence committed in the name of God, or any ideology, for that matter.

    • The war begins due to human interpretations of texts, and humans believing that they have a power to rule rather than the power to love.

I believe the bible as the word of God, but even if I take it out of that context and follow its instructions on how I should live and treat people, it will not lead me to violence.

If I use it to fulfil my own self righteousness that is not a fault of the bible but a fault of my own.

I so appreciate this reminder and the Willard quote. There are many people who frustrate me with their ‘stiff-necked’ response to God; but like the difficulty of the man being sought from within himself, I remember why Jesus spoke in parables (Luke 8:10).
