“Home is where the heart is,” the sentimental expression tells us. But for some people, home is where the odd is. And that’s nothing new. Some of the homes in this gallery were built long ago, others in recent years. But they all have one thing in common: a desire to be anything but common. Enjoy!

There’s no place like home, Mitch. And for many of the homes illustrated, there isn’t another home like them. Love these quirky residences.
Some of these I love, but some of them make me scratch my head. I do admire all the ingenuity, though!
Where in the world do you find these things, Mitch? Bob
Magic google fingers.
And believe it or not, Google’s actually been around for a quarter century.. Sure seems like yesterday that we were hunting for the best browser.
What an amazing collection of unique dwellings. I have to bow to their creativity.
I’d say there’s a good reason some of these odd houses are now abandoned.
;>)
Lovely!
Oh!!! I just have to add one for your list. The owner is a friend of mine, and was my employer when I lived in Victoria, BC, many, many years ago. The last time I visited them, the inside of their house was all amazing murals, but they hadn’t done this, yet!

Wow, that is one eccentric house, Re-F!
Nice little cottage you have there!
Thanks, Heather. It’s not much, but it’s home.
LOL
can’t help feeling the top one looks slightly obscene but what do I know –
Thanks, what an awesome collection of unusual homes. I love alot of them but that glass house in Japan is too much. I couldn’t live like that – no privacy!
All I can say is, the people who live there shouldn’t throw stones.
These homes all show human ingenuity and the desire to build something unique. No one else will have a cookie cutter house that looks like these! 😊
True indeed, Hazel!
What a fascinating collection, Mitch. I particularly enjoyed the one with follow-up views of the interiors.
Home sweet home. 🏡 Incredible!
I don’t suppose you live in the mushroom house in Cincinnati. 🙂
You don’t suppose correctly, Nancy. ;>)
Thank you for sharing these Mitch. What an incredible collection too. It is fascinating to me how creative people are. I really enjoyed looking at these. Thank you and have a blessed weekend. 🏡🏡🤗
You too, Joni.
These were fascinating. We have to have an alternative to wood, deforestation is becoming such a problem. Some very creative ideas. ✨
How nice it would be if we all had the money and freedom to do what we want, like that!
Definitely some interesting homes here! I don’t think I’d want to live in any of them, but definitely interesting!
Many of those would be fun to spend a holiday in!
Can’t imagine living in any of these–even “your house” with its multiple hallways leading hither and yon and staircase upon staircase. All of them fun to see, though, from the comfort of our truly cozy (albeit boring) ranch house!
;>)
I used to live in Lubbock TX, and had visited the unfinished, “Steel House”. At the time the structure was merely a shell and the man who started construction had passed away. I remember it was like being inside a bell. Every footfall echoed endlessly.
Sounds like it would drive the occupants mad, Jon.
We’ve got a couple of geodesic dome houses near us that I always find fascinating. There’s also a dome house on top of a hill not far away that I would love to get a look at except we don’t know how to get there. When we were house-shopping years ago I was weirdly interested in this one place we looked at that used to be some kind of small boarding house or motel, so it had a long central hallway with rooms off of it; all the rooms had their own external door, and it had a large central open area between the main building and a separate structure that had a ceiling of corrugated plastic and some other strange features. My wife says that if all houses were circular or domes or such, I would like the oddball square ones. This is probably true.

Mitch,
People do some pretty amazing things. I guess they are only limited by their imagination and pocketbooks. Merry Christmas,
Gary
And Merry Christmas to you, my friend.
Wow! Amazing!
