Happy 10th Anniversary of the End of the World!

endworldWell, this is a holiday celebrated by no one. And yet, it seems at least worth mentioning that on this date ten years ago a series of cataclysmic events destroyed our planet.

Or not.

It all began with the end of a 5,000 year cycle on an ancient Mayan calendar. Which we knew to be completely factual because, dude, those Mayans had it goin’ on. Soon, experts in a number of unique (made-up) disciplines, proved that:

  1. Our planet would be sucked into a formerly undetected black hole (don’t you hate it when that happens?);
  2. Earth would collide with the hitherto unnoticed planet Nibiru, the world from whence emanated our ancient alien astronaut ancestors (all that alliteration can’t be wrong);
  3. And/or any number of other selfie-inspiring events would occur, including a sudden, instantaneous quantum leap in human wisdom and intelligence.

 Yeah, that happened.

There was, however, a much more obscure event that actually did change the world as we know it. It happened in a tiny village called Bethlehem. And strangely enough, over 2,000 years later (unlike the end of the world ten years ago) no one seems to have forgotten about it. In fact, this time every year it’s commemorated by billions. Because the baby born on that day has changed more lives than any other person in human history.

Including mine.

  1. Yes, strange that a baby did that! When you see all the cathedrals they certainly have paid/ are paying for His continued celebration. Shame we are all still angry with each other. Still that baby cries in a dark night and we wake up to satisfy our need for Him.

  2. He changed my life, too, Mitch. ❤️

  3. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

    I love this. Great way to bring attention back to Christ!

    Me too! PTL!

  6. The priests, the Pharisees, the Sadducees, and the heads of state in Israel weren’t invited. But the poor, the shepherds (whose lambs were the lambs of Passover, btw, and wrapped in cloths and placed in a manger to protect them because they needed to be without blemish) and the Gentile magi were there.

  7. Praise God, thank you Jesus! Please keep me in your prayers for healing.

  8. Your ending!😭🙌🏼

    I remember that forecast from 10 years ago. If I recall correctly, Randy “Macho Man” Savage died on the exact day of the forecasted end of the world.
    So apparently the prediction was true… for one person in particular.

    Mitch,

    Amen and amen, brother. He made a way where there wasn’t a way.

    Thanks,

    Gary

    Great post, Mitch. Merry Christmas!

    And isn’t it interesting that here we are 10 years after the end of the world. 😉

  12. I remember that apocalypse well. I think it was just a few years after Harold Camping’s apocalypse. Which came a few decades after Hal Lindsey’s apocalypse.
    Thank God that Jesus came and will come again in the Father’s perfect timing, so we have hope for eternity no matter what happens elsewhere in the solar system.

    Late read on my part. Great post! Merry Christmas 🎄🎁

  14. Like the cartoon, I think the Mayans merely ran out of space on that rock and weren’t predicting anything. On December 31st does everyone think the world will end on January 1 just because there are no more calendar pages ?
