*Note: A mutual friend of mine and Carrie’s brother Todd Fisher says that Carrie prayed with the two of them to receive Christ some years ago–infinitely more important than any fame Carrie may have attained in this world. I was so pleased to hear this.
I am diagnosed with severe recurring depression. NPR recently did an interview with her and she talks openly about her mental illness. I was not aware she had a young daughter. She said the medical treatment is so important for her mental illness, which allows her to be stable and take care of her child. Let us communally pray for her family. She also recently published a new book which I am going to pick up this weekend. Mental illness in our country and in our church denominations is not talked about enough. Mental illness treatment in most states is greatly under-funded and as a result, many mentally ill people are in prison where help is even more limited if available at all. On my blog, I write openly about my mental illness and walk of faith. Just sometimes…..other wise I think a blog about depression only would be quite depressing. Thank you so much for sharing your sense of connection with and compassion for Carrie (and her daughter Billie), Rick. I struggled with anxiety for years and know what a double-blessing it can be to both learn from your illness and share what you’ve learned with others.

Thank you for sharing your journey and allowing my lengthy comment to be on your site. During the NPR interview she sounded so beautiful and humble and like a person who was not faking it just because she was famous. Not many stars could we say the same for. When she said her medical treatment was to enable her to take care of her daughter, I was so impressed! I’m sure readers can listen to the interview on the NPR website! I’m sorry for the loss. What a tragedy. I remembered your Princess Leia post when I first heard the news, and I found it comforting. Somewhere Mitch is sad too, and writing a tribute to her. 🙂
I am so happy that she accepted Christ. Now you two can play star wars in eternity. 🙂 Just kidding. Seriously, salvation is a wonderful thing for any of us. Bless you, Mitch.
I’ve been thinking about her salvation since I heard the news. I was hoping to hear she ad accepted Christ. I’m so happy she did.
Her and her mom Debbie’s passing today, was a remarkably tragic event. I thought of you yesterday, Mitch. I remembered that you’d had a wonderful encounter with, Carrie, some years ago. It’s my hope that we can get out of 2016 without any further tragic events like this.
