Engulfed together (story below the photos). In many ways, that’s essence of us, my wife Trudy and me. We seldom take summer trips. But come autumn, we love to gas up our SUV and hit the road! We’d hoped to be engulfed in Maine this year, but couldn’t fit it in. So, for now we’re reminiscing about our Fall Getaway five years ago this weekend.

We have our differences, but Trudy and I also share some passionate interests (in addition to one another). Our love of stories, for example. We read aloud together every day, and watch (and sometimes make) movies together. Another shared passion is our love of art in all its forms. Early in our dating relationship, we visited California’s Getty Museum and found ourselves engulfed in an aesthetic cocoon. For hours it was just the two of us and the art we were experiencing — together. I remember thinking, “If I died right now, I’d die happy.”
Not surprisingly, therefore, we spent the first two days of our 2019 Fall Getaway visiting America’s largest home, the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina. Apart from its palatial size (the obvious joke is that they “built more”), it was created following remarkable aesthetics. From its traditional chateau architecture to its unique interior design to the art on its walls by Sargent, Whistler, Duerer, and Renoir. Once again, we were engulfed in an aesthetic coccon — together.
For the rest of our Getaway we hiked and explored one of the ultimate Artist’s masterpieces, the Great Smoky Mountains. And once again we were engulfed —
Together!

Wow. Awesome. I want to go.
Thanks, Anonymous.
Yes, wow!
Please let me know next time you come to NC. I would LOVE to meet you and Trudy. 😊

Asheville NC is beautiful! My family and I are planning to spend a weekend there this month.
Enjoy, Iman!
Absolutely stunning pictures! Thanks for sharing with us. My wife and I took that same trip just a year before you did and absolutely loved it. However, it did rain most of the time we were there, but that did nothing to dampen the experience… So to speak.
Thank you, Anonymous.
Gorgeous gallery of photos
Thank you, Sheree.
Very beautiful pictures Mitch!
I can only hope that someday I will have someone to love like you do.
God Bless you and your wife.
Enjoy the weekend!
Aw, thank you, and bless you back, Cora!
very nice photos – that view of the mountains is amazing! Mike
Thanks, Mike.
Thank you for sharing this part of your story! Beautiful images.
My pleasure, San.
Very pretty
Lovely pictures. YEs, the Biltmore and the Smokies are beautiful!
The Biltmore Estate is magnificent and the scenery is awesome. Now that’s a fabulous getaway! 🙂
Yep. We were not disappointed.
Thanks for revisiting an old trip for us. The Great Smoky Mountains are beautiful!
They are indeed, Priscilla.
Having built many structures, I found myself wondering, if we’re done building it, why do we still call it a “building” and not a “built.”🤠
;>) Who is this, btw? (WordPress labels you “Anonymous.”)
What a wonderful trip! And how nice to share the love of art .
Thank you, PK.
A wonderful journey and—-(thanks for the memories). I only just held myself back from singing that line! 🙂
;>)
Momo and I do the same. We will be headed back to the big sky country of Texas soon. Something about the high desert lures us in. Marfa, Alpine and Fort Davis, the Texas Bermuda triangle.
;>)
beautiful
Thank you, Maria.
❤️
My husband visited Biltmore back in the ’90s (1990s, not 1890s). What a beautiful place! We’d love to go back. It was so distressing to see the flood damag to Asheville on the news.
It certainly was, Liz.
Love the Biltmore! They have opened more rooms over the years and the mountains are beautiful! Thanks for sharing the pics, brings back good memories.
My pleasure, Peggy.
Your five years ago looks like a much, much, MUCH better time than my five years ago lol
Pretty pics Mitch!
This was worth logging in just to tell you 1) I’m not only a little jealous, but 2) really enjoy your photos, Mitch and Trudy! Also, 3) heads up – one must also log in to Wp on a laptop to “like” your posts now, but I can simply like Mehrling Muse and other blogs. Interesting.
Thanks so much for the feeback, Anonymous! Can you give me a little more info about the “Like” issue? Are you saying you have to take an extra step to Like my posts that you don’t have to take with other blogs? Yet you were able to Comment in this post, albeit as Anonymous. I’m having all kinds of issues with WordPress lately!
