Engaged [inˈɡājd, enˈɡājd] Definition: A state of being firmly and continuously connected. E.g. “A car cannot move until its gears are engaged; when they are disengaged, it ceases to move forward.”

Thought for the Week
My wife and I got engaged 39 years ago today.
And we still are.
Yes, we got married. But we’re still engaged. Completely. Oh, we’ve changed gears too many times to count. And we’ve gotten stuck in neutral on occasion. But every time we did, we realized we’d ceased to move forward, and worked to get our marriage back in gear (good marriages are strictly manual transmission vehicles; automatic simply won’t do).
So, thank you for 39 years of engagement, honey. I wouldn’t want to travel this road with anyone else. And, oh yeah, this isn’t very automotive sounding, but…
I love you!

“(good marriages are strictly manual transmission vehicles; automatic simply won’t do).”
So true and helpful. Now I’m singing The Beach Boys song, First gear, it’s alright. Second gear, I’ll lean right. Third gear, hang on tight…” 🎶
;>)
Great analogy! Took me back a moment when I learned to drive a manual transmission. Took some work and I had to be fully engaged. Finally got it. At this point, I would have to remember, lol. Thanks for sharing, Mitch. By the way, Happy Anniversary!!!
Thank you, San!
Happy Anniversary, Mich.. These roads are ones good marriages know well❣️

So sweet…you two ♥️♥️! Also very true and, yes, us too… 50 years this April 27th. We’re excited to celebrate! ❣️🥳🥳❣️ 40 is a BIG one too… Hope you continue to enjoy the ride! 🚙
Thank you, Dori, and Happy Fifty!
Thank you! Never dreamed I’d be married this long, but God has been so good…not always easy, but good and well worth every struggle, grief, prayer…everything!
It’s a “Herbie” thing…got the “Love Bug”
Manual transmission indeed! Many of my younger teacher friends ask me about my marriage because I have been married 39 years. They want to know how to stay together and be happy. I tell them sometimes it’s hard work but it’s worth it. I’m going to borrow your car transmission analogy next time! Congratulations to Mr.& Mrs. Mitch!

Oh, C’mon!!!!
Writer, Director, Blogger extraordinaire?
Better endings:
“You rev my engine!”
“You are the spark for my plug!”
“You are the Go-Juice!”
“You are the GPS in this journey through life!”
“You get me through the Clutch Times!”
“I’m glad I’m the Bug in your Bugatti”
“You make my pistons pump!”
;>)
Happy anniversary!
Thank you, Priscilla!

Comparing marriage to the functions of a manual car transmission sounds like a fun relationship that came out of Woodstock. Congratulations, Mitch and Trudy! 🙂
;>) Thanks, Nancy!
Congratulations to both of you on your engagement anniversary. “Stuck in neutral” is a good metaphor.
