I’m a day late with this. But then every day should be Earth Day.
I’m not a flaming liberal. I’m more of a smoldering moderate (and smoke-free at that). But when it comes to protecting my home planet, I tend to flare up a bit.
Here’s why:
Pollution kills. We’re not just talking about the future here, we’re talking about right now. Pollution is killing people (and a whole lot of other creatures) in devastating numbers even as you read this! So, no, taking care of our home planet isn’t anti-industry or anti-economy, or anti-anything — it’s pro-life! And you don’t even have to believe in global warming to see that there’s a problem.
Here’s what pollution is doing to our planet right now:
- Over 7 million humans a year are dying from air pollution
- One quarter of all child deaths under age five are due to pollution
- People with medical conditions directly related to air, water, soil and other forms of pollution: 200 million
- People indirectly affected by pollutants (lower IQ, weakened immune system, etc.): approximately 2 1/2 billion
- The economic effect in lost labor and medical expenses (never mind the immeasurable cost in human suffering): tens of trillions of dollars
This is what pollution does to our planet. Every. Single. Year. And that’s why I say…
Earth Day Is Us Day!
♥

The destruction of our beautiful, beautiful earth often makes me want to weep.
ESPÉCIE RARA. PREDAÇÃO MÚTUA. O GOSTO PELA MORTE.

Not sure how those numbers were calculated, but they do help in making a point. Of course, if we still need numbers to convince us that we have gone too far, the future is bleak.
Wow.. Well, the Author of Earth can multiply every sincere effort 5000-fold (or more), so each of us doing what we can, where we can in our homes and immediate circles cannot be minimized as unimportant (or even too late); even the smallest goodwill is goodwill, and every help matters.
Well-said, Mitch!
So true, …every day should be Earth Day, …how can it not be, …we’re here, doing what we’re doing, poisoning the Planet without cease,…I’m a smouldering moderate too….💫🌎💫
Thanks for the information, Mitch. Didn’t realize the negative impact of pollution was so great.
Happy Earth Day, Mitch.
💙💙💙
A terra estava aqui muito antes de nós, e estará aqui depois de nós. O outros seres vivos não veem a hora deste dia chegar.
Abraço fraterno.
cora when will you redo
It’s starting to feel like it should be called running out of earth days.
🌎☀️🪴👤
I agree that Earth Day should be every day!
It is just terrible what our generation has done to this wonderful and beautiful planet that is supposed to be a home for all kinds of beings. And you are so right: We don’t have to change something in the future. We have to change a lot instantly since the threat has already become real – still, too many don’t (want to) see it and don’t take it serious.

Mitch, I’m going to forward this whole, with an introduction encouraging people to seek you out. Happy Earth Day, my friend.
You’re up: https://thepoetspublicrecord.wordpress.com/2025/04/23/mitch-teemleys-us-day/
Thanks for sharing, great information< unfortunately facts don't matter anymore
Agreed on all points, Mitch! 🌎🙏
Yes. ….Everyday should be Earth Day…..x
Not to mention that our bodies are slowly turning into all the plastic we’re consuming.
Overconsumption is a real problem, it’s leading to the destruction of our beautiful planet. I wish more people would realize this, before it’s too late. And you’re right, every day should be Earth Day.
Yes, what on Earth are we doing to our world!
❤️
I’ll have a lot to say on this one Saturday… or a friend from the CO2 Coalition will.😉 I fully agree with you that we should waste less, control pollution and care for Father’s Earth; after all, we ARE just stewards, not owners.
However, climate alarmism and regulations that oppress people are not sensible nor sustainable.

Sadly we don’t need an AI generated image to see this problem
Very true. (For what it’s worth, the artwork is at least ten years old, so it’s not AI-generated.)
Amen, bravo, and yes, yes!!! 🙏🏻♥️

Two thumbs up on this post Mitch!
Thank you, Mags!
My daughter understands and takes protecting the environment more seriously than adults.
Good for her, Iba.
A smoldering moderate! I love that, C
;>)
The plastics are bad, the chemicals in our food is bad, the Stratospheric Aerosol Injection program is bad also. I don’t like any of the things that are destroying our planet either so I gave it to God and left it at his feet.
I’m glad for us that those of us that are not doing these things will have to answer for it.
God Bless you and your family Mitch.
Enjoy the weekend!
You too, Cora!
We are blessed with incredible resources. How foolish to destroy these gifts.
Foolish indeed, Mary.
You put this in a way that makes it very clear just how badly pollution is hurting us…all of us!

Great post, Mitch! God created it and we’re not doing such a great job of caring for it. ☹️
Sadly true, Peggy.
After spending a week in New Delhi, my
lungs needed sweeping like a chimney 🚭
!!!
The air pollution there is so bad you
can only see the sky after a monsoonal
downpour 🌞 rain. In fact, it’s deadly
toxic, and mostly car exhaust fumes.
Horrid that it’s reached that point!
I love the phrase “Earth Day is Us Day.” It drives home the urgency of protecting our planet and reminds me of another phrase, “We’re all in this together.” The stats you shared are a necessary reminder of what’s at stake. Thanks for shedding some light on this. Very insightful!
My pleasure, BK!
