But Where Is God?
“God is the author of the cosmos, not a character within it. Since he created space-time, it is pointless to try to find him in the heavens. Could one find Handel himself by searching through the words of his Messiah?”
~Dr. Kenneth Boa (scientist and theologian)
And yet God is with us. He is not the cosmos, is not bound by his creation. And yet, just as Handel’s passion, his spirit is there in every word and note he composed, God is present. And more so. For God is still completing his masterpiece. Can there be any greater cause for joy than this?
“For the LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
~Deuteronomy 31:8

Mitch, with this post, are you really seeking God the Sovereign Author of all that be or is it to prickle/pique your curiosity or is it a passing train of cerebration?
I’m addressing the oft-asked question of whether God “lives in,” or even is, the universe, Gemerald. And affirming that, while God is not bound by our universe (cosmos), he is nevertheless with us.
It distresses me greatly when people talk about the inanimate universe “gifting” them opportunities. All blessings are from God alone.
Amen, Anna. If I’m grateful for my house, I thank the one who designed and built it, not the house.
Amén 🙏. God is love. 🌈🌟🤍🎁
In Jesus, did He become a character in it?
Great question, Todd. Like all metaphors, Boa’s term “character” has its limits. In this case, it refers to a created being that lives only within the bounds of the story created by the author. But such limits do not apply to the author himself. Therefore, when the author of our “story” entered it, he did so as an utterly unique person (fully human and fully God), but not as a character in Boa’s sense of the term.
God is the Spirit or conscience within and He is space without, formless, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, eternal.
psalms 65:02 & deuteronomy 56:33 when i am afraid trust in thee
Amen and amen. This brings up an old children’s song,
He made the stars to shine
He made the rolling sea
He made the mountains high
And He made me
And that is why I love Him
For me He bled and died
The lord of all creations
He came to be crucified.
Because I have a hard time with cosmos, I have Jesus.
