WordPress Thriller!

Thought for the Week

True story. I logged onto WordPress, but couldn’t get past some weird new feature. It was called “The Game,” and playing it wasn’t optional. I know because choosing “I don’t want this feature” actually took me to Level One of The Game!

First, it threw a series of challenges at me. I refused to accept them. Which, apparently, was just what I was supposed to do because that took me to Level Two. Well, at least I was advancing…wait, no, I didn’t want to advance. I wanted out!

In frustration, I signed off.

But The Game was still there.

So I logged off the internet.

But The Game was still there.

So I shut down my computer.

But The Game was still there.

It was then that I realized The Game had been downloaded into my head, and there would be no escaping it ever again!

Then I woke up. I’d been dreaming! Hah-hah-hah…

But I wasn’t relieved.

Because The Game was still there!!

I was furious at WordPress and its team of evil droids for commandeering my brain. How dare they do so without my permission!

Then I woke up.

It turned out my previous wake-up had been Fake-Awake: Level Fifteen. I was finally truly awake!

But The Game was still…

Just kidding.

This time, it really was gone, and I couldn’t wait to log onto WordPress to blog about it! But then I thought…

Maybe not.

The above dream, and my waking still playing The Game, really happened (although in the dream it was a blend of WordPress and Facebook). Was it some kind of Freudian trance? Proof we really are in The Matrix? The dystopian future of social media?

“Awake, O, sleeper, and arise from the dead.”

Ugh. That is like the movie about falling asleep in different levels and not being able to wake up. My worst nightmare would be to live in my dream world. Even worse if it involves the downward spiral of WordPress and Facebook. Glad you woke up, Mitch!

  2. Wow! Sounds like a subscription that you cant stop paying for. A nightmare well done.

  3. beth says:

    Well done

  4. I think it was prophetic, Mitch. Our devices are already listening to us, and we have to play the game, unless we want to be totally off the grid. I’ve had those dreams before, where I dreamt I was dreaming and woke up multiple times. They really mess with your mind… Welcome to the 21st Century. 😒

  5. Ugh! Too real… again, ugh!

  6. Maybe you should get the microchip removed that was implanted in your brain while you slept. 🙂

  7. Let me guess: the game is still there. Good one Mitch.

  8. Anne Leueen says:

  9. Erika says:

OMG, what a nightmare! Social Media can become such a horror trip that keeps haunting you.

  10. Well done Mitch. Really got me hooked, not in the game, but in reading your post 😁.

  11. newt50 says:

that must have been CRAZY! Lol. I’m so glad that you woke up before the third round.

  12. Whoa. I would have woken up screaming!

  13. LOL I think the recent WordPress glitches are getting to you

  14. trE says:

Listen, the way I laughed at this!!!

“It turned out my previous wake-up had been Fake-Awake: Level Fifteen. I was finally truly awake!

    But The Game was still…

    Just kidding.”

    🤣😆😂

I’m glad you’re truly awake now and there is no WordPress game.

    OR

    Is there?! 🤣😆😂

  15. swabby429 says:

Lucid dreaming is a fascinating phonomenon.

  16. I really needed to hear this today.

  17. Is there something of the old Paul Simon lyric, Mitch: ‘And so my fantasy becomes reality, and I must be what I must be and face tomorrow’?

  18. Oh no! WordPress nightmares!!

  19. JMN says:

You know how to grab a reader by the lapels! In a good way. 🙂 I had to see how this ended.

  20. Ann Coleman says:

Sadly, I think that dream was an omen of things to come! Word Press won’t stop until it’s controlling everything……….Ha!

  21. I love those WordPress games! One of my favorites is, “Where did they move this important feature to THIS week?” And let’s not forget that other old classic, “How many clicks does it now take to do this one simple thing you do ALL THE TIME?” 😁

  22. You had me worried for a minute. I hope I can log on to WordPress safely now.

  23. It just sounds a lot like reality to me. How often does the “Game” of life throw challenges at us, which we don’t want to accept.
Usually, our only option is to wake up, accept the challenge, and ask God to help us get through it.

  24. Very funny, Mitch! Each time I post, the “block editor” is waiting to block me from formatting the way I want to, interrupting each time I hit “enter.” For now, I have discovered a way to block it, but I never know what I’ll find the next time. I try to post.
