What make us civilized? Dictionary.com defines civilized as “having an advanced or humane culture.” To be truly civilized is to respond together to the goodness that is intrinsic in each of us at birth. It’s what makes us (in the best sense of the word) human. It’s the impulse to bind together to love and protect what is innocent and pure in our world—children, animals, our environment, the oppressed or abandoned, and anyone in need.
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely…think on these things.” ~Philippians 4:8

I remember telling our son that one of the things his parents were called to do was to help civilize him, to nurture the good things and use a little sandpaper on his “sharp corners.” (“Who knows,” I told him, “you just might have dinner with the governor some day.” No governor, but he has thanked me for table manners practice.)

I reckon being civilized means able to handle various social situations well without resorting to violance or severing relationships, no?
That’s certainly one aspect of civilized behavior.
I loved all the photos. I wonder if being humane is more than being human. It would seem to be to be more important than being civilized. Maybe it’s just a word thing. This makes me think about the words.
It’s good to ruminate on word meanings. Just as the letter “e” extends the word “human,” I think being humane extends our humanness to includes kindness and compassion.
