Back in 1987, an eagle managed to fly all the way across the Atlantic Ocean to the United States, where it arrived sick and exhausted. It was immediately greeted by an outpouring of public support. Oh, how times have changed. If this were to happen today, it would immediately be deported as an…ill eagle alien.

I don’t know, Alex, but it made the front page. He flew from Ireland to New York state!
Oh, I Googled this: This happened in December of ’87, but the eagle flew 3,000 miles east, to Ireland. The bald eagle arrived malnourished, but the folks in County Kerry rescued it and nursed it back to health. When it was healthy, the eagle – which the Irish had named “Iolar” – was sent back to the U.S. on an Aer Lingus flight. (No word on whether the State Department sent Iolar a new U.S. passport.)
