I’ve always been intrigued by the relationship between light and shadows. Together, they bring out the depth and dimensionality of objects. People too. We’re more real when seen in both light and shadows. “All masterpieces,” Billy Graham observed (and that includes human beings), “contain both light and shadow. A happy life is not one filled with only sunshine, but one which uses both light and shadow to produce beauty.”

“The brightest flame casts the darkest shadow.” ~George R.R. Martin
“In faith there is enough light for those who want to believe and enough shadows to blind those who don’t.” ~Blaise Pascal
“Be transparent, so you no longer cast a shadow but instead let the light pass through you.” ~Kamand Kojouri
“Light and shadow are opposite sides of the same coin. We can illuminate our paths or darken our way. It is a matter of choice.” ~Maya Angelou

Striking images! I especially love the interior ones – stairs and windows. 😍
Lovely images and some wonderful quotes.
Great post
Thanks, L.G.
Love the photos and the quotes, and the comparison of light and shadows to life itself.
So glad it spoke to you, Sheryl.
Lovely images.
Oh this is awesome.
So glad you enjoyed it, Luna.
Your perspective totally shifts, …the eye searches for colour, but doesn’t need to,…such a beautiful cascade of photos… 💫Penn💫
Great point, Penn.
A fabulous selection of images!
Thank you!
I especially love photos of sunbeams, streaming down through trees, or radiating from behind clouds. I imagine an angel has left the door open to heaven and God’s light is gleaming down upon us.
I like that thought, Nancy.
Beautiful photos. Are the unattributed ones your own?
Unforntunately, no, Jeff.
cora where are you
The light is when the shadow brightens
Really enjoyed looking at these Mitch. You are a master at finding the striking and interesting!
Thank you, Jon. I do enjoy curating them.
Some of these remind me of Escher
I can see why, Venus.
“In faith there is enough light for those who want to believe and enough shadows to blind those who don’t.” ~Blaise Pascal ❤️
I like the photographs you shared, Mitch. The artist’s perspective of light and shadow tells many tales.
I wonder how light and shadow can give opposite meanings of their names, in particular contexts.
The quotes are meaningful too.
It’s a post worth sharing. I see value in it.
Thank you so much!😊
My pleasure, Loku!
Lovely images and thoughtful words.
Beautiful! Great captured ☺️
Nice photo collection to enhance your post topic, Mitch!
Thanks, Terry!
More amazing pictures.
“…“Be transparent, so you no longer cast a shadow but instead let the light pass through you.” ~Kamand Kojouri…”
The depth of wisdom, amazing!
An incredible series of photos ~ a perfect reflection of how light and darkness can work together to create magic. You also include a quote from one of my favorites in Billy Graham: “… contain both light and shadow. A happy life is not one filled with only sunshine, but one which uses both light and shadow to produce beauty.” Perfect. I wish you a wonderful Easter weekend.
You too, Dalo, and likewise.
Like you Mitch I have a fancy for ‘Lights and shadows’ too.
Really good pictures, very favorable in some cases.
I remember the first time I became enthralled (and greatly disappointed) with my misunderstanding of light and shadow….I was a teenager getting my pictures from film developed, realizing I was clueless. I had picture proof.
;>)
Oooo! I love this one – “In faith there is enough light for those who want to believe and enough shadows to blind those who don’t.” ~Blaise Pascal. As a photography, I have always been on the hunt for light and shadow. Maybe it’s because as a young child Psalm 23 stuck in my head – Yea, though I walk: through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil – and I wanted to walk bravely through the world and take in the beauty God gifted all of us. Thanks, Mitch!
Love the images!
Beautiful photos 😊
So glad you enjoyed it, Priti.
