Source of quote unknown.
The U. S. is on the verge of its longest government shutdown in history (due, as always, to an impasse over spending). Meanwhile, Congress and the current administration are vying to see who can win The Blame Game.
Some thoughts on the subject:
“Discussion is an exchange of knowledge. An argument is an exchange of ignorance.” ~Robert Quillen
“Insults are the arguments employed by those who are in the wrong.” ~Jean-Jacques Rousseau
“The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected.” ~G. K. Chesterton
“Whenever we want to combat our enemies, first and foremost we must start by understanding them rather than exaggerating their motives.” ~Criss Jami
“Every time somebody opens their mouth, they have an opportunity to do one of two things–connect or divide.” ~Joss Whedon
“No one can persuade another to change. Each of us guards a gate of change that can only be opened from the inside.” ~Marilyn Ferguson

Happy new year, Mitch. That doesn’t sound good at all.
;>) You too, Roberta!
I nominate you for president.
Nooooooooo!
🙂
A bunch of adults acting like babies. It’s quite disheartening.
Yes, quick lets make a new government! Sounds like a good suggestion to me!
Thanks Mitch! It’s refreshing to hear some statements of truth! (along with a little humor)
The truth of the Marilyn Ferguson quote is kind of sad to ponder at this moment in our nation’s history, isn’t it?
Yes. That’s why it seemed appropriate to end with it.
Loved your top quote, then only thing is will the next one be worse than what we already have. They all have too much power and I am a strong proponent for term limits.
Two good points, Anita.
I’m a strong supporter of limited government and free market capitalism, which ensures that I always have at least two reasons to be angry with our elected officials. 😂😂😂
I agree! 4 Years is too long, but our country doesn’t do well with transitions, fairness, and leadership.
🙂 I’m in!!
Fantastic quotes in relation to that the shutdown.
Great idea! Gandolf for president lol!
Fantastic quotes!
Love the Chesterston quote, as well as Rousseau’s. Once, I heard a Catholic priest say the first one and thought… Well, this is a good one.
Ah, yes, the eminently quotable Mr. Chesterton.
Yes let’s build a new one.
Why does He have the power to shut it down in the first place?
“They,” actually. A budget must be passed before government money can be spent (with some built-in exceptions).
Ok so what about the employees in the lower sector suffering, working with no pay? 🤔
Many do, in fact, miss paychecks until the government settles on a budget.
That’s a problem. I don’t care who forces the shutdown, the president can change it. He’s been giving executive orders left and right.
I appreciate this, as my husband is currently furloughed 🙁 No paycheck this coming Monday.
Aw, that sucks, Rhonda.
Speaking as a Conservative, G. K. Chesterton for the win. 😂
I live right on the border to Mexico, just about 5 miles! I looked up the most dangerous cities in the country-we are not even in the top 25! A wall is not needed, but reopening our government is!
Top notch!
It all seems insane to me… but then, we have insanity of our own going on over here right now. Maybe we should just get rid of politicians.
The prisons are already overcrowded. ;>)
My husband is retired from the federal government, so this is the first shutdown in many years that has not affected us. We always appreciated the gigantic paycheck that comes at the end. We ate out of the freezer until it came, and then we were set to pay a medical bill or do something around the house. Not the worst that can happen. Love your humor here.
Thanks, Nancy.
After reading your account, I could surmise that both sides have won the blame game. I just wish that the position of the left had not taken a position of an opinion on a Moral issue. The problem of this situation promotes the opinion of one that should not be the facts of the good for all. There seems to me the need for a new set of talking points that can be based on empirical data, that requires definition. I just heard a fact that of the 400 plus border crosser, 130 were from countries than of Central or South America. To me, that is data that requires vetting of individuals. Good post.
Sadly, we live in times when the most important thing is to make sure the other side takes the blame, rather than actually fixing the problem!
This is what happens when the people defer personal responsibility to a government of any kind.
Here’s another thought and a worthy quote: “The LORD reigns; let the peoples tremble! He dwells between the cherubim; let the earth be moved!” –Psalm 99.1 Praying for all affected by the troubles of our times; and also praying that they would turn to the Lord in prayer for our government and for mercy in their lives…
Amen, Rose!
Those were some great quotes. I cracked up at the one by Robert Quillen. Unfortunately, the current political climate is too childish to even qualify as an argument: more like a nursery school temper tantrum.
I fear you’re right. Thanks, Michael.
hahahahaa. good one. too bad it didn’t happen
