Today, America celebrates its 249th official birthday. So it seemed like a good time to share some photos themed on that line from “America the Beautiful.” My wife and I took all but of few of these in the last few years. Happy Independence Day!

Thank you, Rasma!
Mitch, last night on the Boston Pop’s annual 4th of July concert, there was a poet telling the story of the woman who wrote the song, as the music played in the background. It was absolutely wonderful and gave new, real meaning to the song and also the author. This was Milly the quilter’s favorite patriotic song. I hope she was listening from above last night.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos, Mitch. As someone who lives in New Zealand, is there a reason for the cover over the bridges?
The main reason old wooden bridges were covered was to protect them from the elements, snow, debris, etc. But they also became a popular architectural style.
Many thanks for the info, Mitch.
Thank you for sharing Mitch. My prayer is that Democracy will still be around so we can celebrate 250 next year.
Gorgeous photos!
I’m honored to hear that from photographers or your caliber, Leo & Nina!
