Interesting Structures
Many of you know that I write, direct and produce movies. You may also know that, while some scenes are filmed on sound stages (especially effects-heavy shots), most are filmed on-location. Finally, I’m guessing most of you know (understatement, duh) that there’s been a pandemic going on. And so, while filming has been largely shut down, my wife and I (she co-produces with me) decided to kill two birds with one stone by taking location-scouting daytrips to snap pics of potential future film sites. Our area has a ton of great architecture, as well as historical sites and natural settings (I’ll post more in the coming weeks). So here, for starters, is a sampling of houses, buildings and other interesting structures we’ve gathered.

Beautiful buildings and locations! I’m finally writing again, but the setting is northern Ontario, and quite remote. I guess I can’t use any of these. I see several that I expect you might use!

I’d loved to, Rita, but the Rockies are a bit far away for daytrips (I’m in Cincinnati).

What a great selection, you will have to film someone running down those steps…. I love 1930s buildings so that white library is a favourite. Some of the churches look very English or European while the big wooden houses are very American, I love them.
The white library caught my eye as well for the same reason.
Beautiful. Hoping film making starts up again soon. George and I would love to work with you again, but we running out of time. It’s an age thing. Just wish we had gotten involved in films earlier. Looking forward to whatever you do!

Would it be possible to film a movie about filming a movie during a pandemic? With social distancing and mask wearing a major part of the story?
Possible, sure. Kind of a snake eating its tail story? ;>)

I love sightseeing and these photos are beautiful! I also did not know you produced and directed movies. That’s pretty neat! My husband is a General Manager of a movie theater but they haven’t been open due to covid and other reasons.
It’s been a rough time for theaters, to say the least.

It would be a shame to have Notzilla come crashing through one of those lovely buildings.
He does ravage downtown Cincinnati in the movie, but miraculously nothing is damaged.
Whew! Those buildings are too lovely to be alpha lizard stomped.

It’s great there’s so many interesting looking buildings where you are. Some of the churches remind me of the churches near where I live in the UK.

After reading the reason for taking these pictures, it made me look at them in a totally different way.
Great locations! I love old architecture but the one that stuck out was the old gas station. I’m not sure why other than happy memories.
Wow! I was born and raised in Columbus, OH, but had no idea Cincinnati was so gorgeous. Some of those locations even seem to suggest what the content of the movie would be.

I was sure it was you that had a long term book that he was turning into a movie. Maybe I’m mixing you up, so sorry if so.
Unless you’re thinking of the novel I’m currently working on, which is based on my already-made movie Healing River.
The tower one is a well composed shot. My eye is just naturally drawn upward. If there were no windows it would be a perfect example of the “Tower of Fate” that the DC Comic character, Dr. Fate lives. No better time to get unobstructed shots of buildings. Cheers!
