I’ve started work on my new novel Fifty Shades of a Wimpy Kid on a Train Where the Crawdads Sing. This is a very personal story for me, and I deeply resent any suggestion it’s derivative of other works. Next they’ll be saying my autobiography The Diary of Anne Frank, Part Two lacks authenticity!
Fear of failure is the enemy of originality.
“Sometimes I worry about being a success in a mediocre world.” ~Lily Tomlin
“It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.” ~Herman Melville
“Mistakes are the only universal form of originality.” ~Mason Cooley
“If you simply try to tell the truth…you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.” ~C. S. Lewis

Excellent advice. Funny, too! You are definitely an original. 😀
Aw, thanks, Linda.
Your new novel is going to be a runaway best-seller!!
;>)
Loved it ….
And yes,
‘Be yourself, everyone else is taken’ –
♥️♥️
I love this…
If you are original, it doesn’t matter if no one loves your work, except yourself!
This is both funny and profound. Yes, life happens only once as far we know. Live it and own all of it.
Yes!
Can’t wait to read your new novel, ha ha.
;>)
Clever post and wonderfully insightful quotes. Thanks, Mitch. 🙂
My pleasure, Nancy.
🤣
They broke the mold after you (lol) !!! 🙂
;>)
This is great, going to make sure my son reads this.
Gotta get those keywords in somehow! 😉

Forwarding CS to my readers with grateful mention 🙏
The Oscar Wilde quote is great one!
No lie! My brother once accused me of attending some conference in AZ because he saw a picture of an attendee and thought it was me! Strange enough, when he sent me the picture, I, too, thought it was me‼️ I told him he should have tried to find this impostor and find out how old he was; then we would know which of us was the clone. True story.🤪
;>)
Yes to all you mention.
Happy working on your new book!
“50 shades of a wimpy kid on a train where the Crawdads sing” hahahah Mitch – you’ve covered so many blockbusters in one 🙂 I hope you go from success to success with your new book xx
;>) Thanks, Janet.
Great title, Mitch. 😏
Thanks! ;>)
Great wisdom with lots of laughs! A perfect combination. Blessings, Mitch.
Thank you, Peggy, and blessings to you.
Thanks for this! I’m pretty sure that going on a date with my AI Psychologist was a horrible mistake on many levels, but at least it was original!
Maybe the lesson here is that the only thing that really matters is whether or not with invite Jesus into our mistakes…
Amen to that, Ernie.
LOVE the title of your new book, Mitch! What’s the subtitle? Any plans for sequels? I’ll bet you could come up with dozens for a hilarious list: Books I’d Write If Only I Had the Time.
;>)
LOL! Looking forward to reading your book! (And if that were actually a book, at least I’d say it’s honest. With so many “rewrites” of books and movies these days, I think the concept of original is fast becoming a thing of the past….)
Interesting thoughts 👍
The title of the book is great! Certainly a very original mixture of familiar titles that would otherwise not belong together.
When I was in college, one of my friends once accused me of being “the Mike-Lynch-iest person” he knew. I take that as a compliment. (Although, to be fair, he did not know any of the other Mikes in my extended family.)
;>)
NICE post 💯
