In the Bleak Midwinter

Presentation1

There’s something about midwinter. Perhaps because it’s too cold to go outside, we’re forced to look inside and assess what we see. “Do I like who I’ve become? Is this who I thought I would be?”

January’s vows have vanished

February’s nows are near

What will I make of the rest of my life?

Where will I go from here?

  1. And will it matter in 10 years what I decide to do today?

  2. Victoria says:

Beautifully pensive and thoughtful, Mitch. Thank you. 💕

  3. Beautifully written and so true. Then when I’ve pondered the hibernating depths of me, by God’s grace comes spring and all of my winter thoughts melt in the warm sunshine of new life. :0)

  4. Every season make us blv that noth6is permanent and everything is part of life

  5. I’m glad our winters are somewhat more temperate and by 10am, if the sun is shining, the weather can be stunning. I become moody and introspective when it rains for too long, and nothing much worthwhile transpires from those sort of thoughts.

  6. Nancy Ruegg says:

Even at my age those are important questions to ask: “What will I make of the rest of my life? Where will I go from here?” Praise God, he has it all figured out. All the days ordained for each of us were written in his book before one of them came to be (Psalm 139:16). I pray I may embrace and live out his plan, and not squander the days I have left!

  7. Every little thing we do makes a difference. It’s up to each of us to make sure it is a positive difference.

  8. gregoryjoel says:

Mid-winter offers little time to rest as we prepare for Spring and tend the winter crops at the farm. Rainy days may keep us from the farm but cold or hot, the farm doesn’t wait. I loved your piece though Mitch. It was 71 degrees here today with a strong south wind and unfortunately, climate change has turned our seasons upside down. Perhaps the cold forces us to look inside and the unseasonably warm weather reminds us of our corporate sin of failing to take care of the wonderous world God gave us. I’d like to think it’s there we become humble stewards gaining hope for the coming year.

Poignant question for midwinter pondering. Love Christina Rossetti!

  10. Wonderful and thought-provoking!

  11. Ann Coleman says:

That’s a good question! I’ve reached the age where I have many more years behind me than I do ahead of me, but I still want to live them as fully as I can.

    Mitch,

Sitting at Moonlight Beach with 60 weather. But I get it, I do. Winter can mess with you. I am sending you some beach weather.

    In Christ, Gary
