How to Write Checks in 2025

We celebrate in December, and pay for it in January. These days, I pay most bills online, but still write some physical checks. And, wouldn’t you know it, at the start of each year I end up putting the wrong date on them. Today, for example, I mailed a very large payment “accidentally” dated “2029.”

P.S. When I’m not writing checks, I’m writing stuff I actually like to write. Which reminds me, today I have a phone meeting with an agent regarding the future of my novels Healing River and The Wishing Map. Prayers appreciated! And while you’re at it, pray that that check doesn’t get cashed until massive royalties from my New York Times bestselling novels begin pouring in.

    Dear God,

I declare as prophetic the idea that by 2029 Mitch will be as widely known and loved by the masses for his novels — as he is for us now with his blog. May you protect and sustain him every step of the way, starting today. Amen.

Glad to know I’m not the only one. I have been known to back-date checks to back in the 1900s–sometimes even before I was born!
All the best on your books, Mitch. God bless.

I used to write checks everywhere (way back when), but these days I still pay most of my bills by check. Although since we haven’t had any mail for the past week, that’s probably going to have to change. I hate doing everything on line, because then when the internet goes down, we’re lost. But soon I will have no choice, sadly.
