How to Waste a Life

Jewish Young Professional, whose pithy poetry and far-reaching prose never fail to engage me. She is honest and down-to-earth, even confessional–which is all-too-rare a quality in our world today. Read on and you’ll see what I mean!

Take your dreams, whatever they are,
take them, and instead of mapping them
onto a blueprint, instead of folding them
into a thousand origami paper cranes
or into a prayer tucked into
the creases of the Western Wall,
take your dreams, roll them up,
set them on fire and smoke them.
Get high inhaling and exhaling
their fragrant ashes and laugh,
laugh like it was a joke all along,
laugh till you think it is funny,
till you don’t notice
that you have died,
leaving the skeleton
of what might have been.
